Anyone watch the Danny Butler fight? (Spoiler)

Post by Deserter »

Saw he lost on points to McDermott and just wondered by what score and how the fight went? I was worried whehter he'd be able to manage the step up in class and would just be interested in the detail... how close it was etc...

Shame Sky didn't show it, really, they spent a while on a Pacman preview instead. :witzend:

Guys

Was a scrappy awful fight. McDermott won 96-95 but scored a knockdown which basically won him the fight. I had the fight 96-95 to Butler but could have easily gone either way.

The busiest man was the ref who had to speak to the boxers about 6 or 7 times throughout the bout.

Butler moved around the ring quite well, but anytime the fight went inside it ended up being a wrestling competition.

I think you can put most of the blame on Butler for the fights scrappy nature Lee - in my experience Macca likes to stay out of clinches and let his long armed combinations do the work. From what I hear Butler is a spoiler.

indeed

terry- funny you should say that about macca, the only thing i have seen on it (bristol newspaper online so obviously coming from butler's side of things) had Butler blaming Macca, quote 'showing his experience holding on the inside'

i agree that macca normally likes to just let his arms go in piston-like fashion. from some reports i wonder if his stamina (maybe weight-making?) is great for the 10 round haul.

and i could see why he would want to muscle the assumedly smaller man around a bit. Butler's hands by all acounts are a bit faster so i can see why macca might look to hit and fall in on him, use his long arms to negate anything butler could do on the inside.

anyways glad he won :TU:

Yep, and Butler's only 22 and young enough to come again. This will have been a good learning experience for him and he won't be too demoralised given the closeness of the verdict, i would imagine.
The one thing that worries me about him is that he doesn't appear to possess any kind of dig at all, and that's going to be a hindrance as you move up in levels.
