Where now for Derry Matthews?

Post by thepocketrocket »

It only seems last week when Derry was beating John Simpson for the WBU title! He was a big name in Liverpool, the world seemed is oyster!

Now he can't buy a win, it's a shame!

Why has this unfortunate turn of events occured?? And where can he go from now?

Well, he has now had three proper stoppage defeats- the stoppage against Harry Ram was somewhat debatable.

He might be in a position to come back, or act as something of a "gatekeeper."

Time will tell.

I felt bad for Derry last night, I was willing him to win - but in fairness to Lawton he looked the sharper and more accurate puncher and was very good value for his win. Not sure were Derry goes from here.

was it a fair stoppage not seen the fight yet, guttted for Derry would rather him retire than become just a name on a prospects record. He's not been same since choi that looks to have taken away his resistance shame looked set to have a really good career

Yeah it was a fair stoppage. Derry remained on his feet but Lawton was teeing off and the ref timed it well.

Felt sorry for Derry. From what i saw he was landing the neater shots. Lawton looked big though, and i always felt he was gonna' be too strong for Matthews.

Lawton did look bigger, amazing to think Super Feather is a possibility for him. He only weighed 9st 5.

His move to Super Featherweight has so far been a disaster, with stoppage loses to Ramogoadi and Lawton.

He might be better off going back to Featherweight, if he still can.

He also needs to comeback against low level journeymen, before attempting to fight any other contenders again, in my opinion.

His physical advantages have deserted him since he stepped up in weight.

Personally, i think he's got to get the advice of a conditioning expert, someone like Kerry Kayes and try to bolster himself.

He was like a match stick at times and Lawton is no Valero !

Fair play to Lawton though, decent ish name on his record.
