More good fights, less foreign fly in.

Post by whicker »

I'm sure we can all agree here (or maybe not) that the vast majority of these foreign fly in opponents are boring, and are nearly always predictably beaten. Occassionally one puts up a bit of stiff resistance, but the result of the fight is hardly ever in doubt.

I much prefere quality, entertaining undercard bouts featuring two British fighters- there were several last night, all dead good.

I wouldn't mind foreign fly in opponents if they came from a nation of hardcases like Russia or one of the Latin American countries, mind you the last time an "opponent" was brought in from one of those countries it ended up with Britains most promising prospect sprawled on the canvas so I won't hold my breath. Promoters will stick to the over matched Latvians and Africans. :geek:

Yeah- as long as the "hardcase" actually tried to win, that is great.

are you on about the hatton cards?

couple of writers had a go at hattion shows. george kimball moaned about seating arrangements & some terrible foreign opposition, for instance. for thesweetscience. shame, as this was the macklin-asikainen card, in which macklin made great career progress.

It doesnt really bother me who's fighting as long as they put up a good fight most of the Africians are tough and hard to break down but other foreigners dont seem to care and just go down with a few punches but most try but arent good enough

As long as they are south american as they as a rule( from waht I've watched) don't tend to read 'The Script' that Eastern European and African fighters (exceptions excluded) have nailed down to the letter

Surely it's easier and cheaper for promotors to use other British or British based boxers? That's what I don't get why pay to get in a negative spoiler, when you could probably get a British fighter who has a better chance of making a fight of it and may well be known by a few more fight fans.

I do find though, that especially in boxers early career they will fight the same fighter 3 or more times which can be a little repetitive and annoying. Just can't understand why promotors can't get any other fighters.

It's not easy to find other fighters, not many people have the desire or the ability to get their head punched in for a living!

And if you find another fighter who is capable of making a fight of it, you risk your own fighter losing and losing your investment. With these Eastern European fighters the promoter knows exactly what he is gonna get, a hassle free win!

Exactly, but from a fans perspective... how dull.
