Pacquiao is clearing out the sport !

Post by whiskey »

He's demolished everyone from the lower ranks (Morales, Barrera, Marquez) and dropped in at light weight to KO Diaz, before dropping into 140 to knock out the top boy in Hatton and has now swept aside Cotto & De La Hoya up at Welter.

Thing is (and i really dont want to sound like sour grapes here) but everyone he's fought has been at the end of their careers.

Barrera was spent, Morales was a skeleton, Hatton had many a hard night, De La Hoya was a toothpick - and now Cotto who has not looked the dominant force since the Margacheato defeat.

I think Floyd is still completely fresh and has not had weight problems, nor has he been battle scarred in wars.

I give Pacquiao the utmost respect, but still think Floyd has too much fitness and skill for him. Plus enough speed of his own.

Mayweather is many levels above the Barrera's and Marquez's of the sport and I still think it's close, but UD for Mayweather.

It's it his reach and speed that will do Pacquiao.

agree or disagree ?

Pacman fought barrera before he teamed up with roach, that pairing has taken paquiao to another level, mayweather is starting to become a bit of a discrace to boxing especially after some of his latest interviews. Yes he is no doubt one of the all time greatest defensive boxers but he selects his fights always with smaller guys and then cant be arsed to make the weights.

i dont think the workrate would bothr floyd. look how he handled rickys pressure.

i think pac lunges a little too much on occasion and floyd would punish that. also he squares up sometimes thus exposing himself to floyds jab to the stomach he likes to throw.

i love pac but its worth mentioning they have TOTALLY steered him clear of slick black boxers like Nate Campbell (the real champ at lightweight when pac picked up the WBC) and Guzman (a lot of people were calling for that fight, hes a tricky fight for any1)

I agree to an extent as Pacquiao has fought a lot of old fighters but has looked brilliant doing it, I think the Margirito did take a lot out of Cotto but he was still an excellent fighter and a great win as was Hatton, I think Mayweather would beat Pac similiar to the Judah fight except it would be closer and PBF would struggle for a start imo

I'm starting to become very suspect about how easily he seems to be moving through the weight classes taking out fighters with ease.

I thought that but to be fair to manny, there's only about a stone between most of the weights and generally the fighters are typically 5'7-5'9 until you head above light middle.

Obviously you get the odd freak, but it's not that unbelievable.

You can pull apart anybody's record and it's very rare that fighters meet in their primes. Even when they do following the fight iself there can be a lot of revisionism i.e. he wasn't as good as we thought.

Pacquiao has had some mighty impressive results these last few years and will go down amongst the greats for me.

Why is the colour of the fighters he hasn't faced relevant? Strikes me as even more bizarre a thing to mention when you think that Marquez was a far slicker fighter than Campbell when the Pacman fought him - the Marquez of recent years is far more aggressive and easier to hit than the Marquez Manny faced. Back then he was a slick counter-puncher.
I can't see anyone beating Pacman apart from Mayweather, who I'd favour to win a clear UD, but I really don't know what to think about the implications of steroid use. There's no evidence of it, but the sad reality of modern-day professional sport is that you can't help but question when you see performances that appear to defy the norm.

Certain black boxers have a different defensive rhythm and style of defence. Like mexicans have their own flavour coming forward and working the body, like europeans do generally fighting tall behind a tight guard. Thats all I getting at mate. And regarding Marquez (who i had beating pac twice incidently), totally agree he was slick but more flat footed than the say, a guzman sort of fighter. Im not bothered by steroid rumours, cos lets be honest, its rife in sport as you say.

It makes me laugh, Manny becomes a 5 weight World champion and many of you say he is good, but not good enough ie Mayweather. The guy is phenomenal, yet you seem to be writing him off suggesting he will be no match for Mayweather. They both have speed, good defence and great stamina and Pacman has shown he can deal with size difference. Mayweather avoided Cotto but Pacquiao took him on and won. I thought Cotto may have been too big and too strong and so did many thousands of others, but Pacman proved us all wrong. Mayweather hasnt fought anyone anywhere near as good as Pacquiao so how can so many of you be sure of a Mayweather victory. I cant say Pacman would win, but I would say he has as much of a chance of beating PBF as PBF has of beating him, in other words its a 50/50. Put another way, the only way you will make a killing at the bookies is to pick the right fighter and the right round, and I know F all about betting. Pacman has already earned the right to be called the best P4P in the World and an ATG and his story hasnt yet finished.

agreed. would he dent a prime arguello? the fact that its a tough call earns pac a very lofty all time ranking in my view.

Pacquiao has done my head in with this run. I mean stepping up to fight DLH, Hatton and Cotto I might have believed he could eek out a points win here or there, score the odd knockdown but this utter devastation like the coming of a Welterweight Mike Tyson or some such phenomenan, it just wasn't meant to be like this - he is wiping the floor with everyone!

If Pacquiao has looked good against old men, who are all the hot up and coming kids that Mayweather has faced? The only unbeaten guys he's faced were Hatton and Corrales. Haven't seen him go near Paul Williams and I don't expect him to face Pacquiao

gomez your very hard to please!!

who's your favourite fighter o.a.t???

barrera was on good form before & after the loss ;;-)

morales had defeated manny 11months prior ;;-) was a bit drained down & coming of a hard fought loss to mab tho.

hatton was winning the rd by a country mile b4 he got twatted in the 2nd  :DDD

i agree cotto was shopworn & forced to lose an extra 2lbs which makes it a good fair catchweight but takes the pi$$ its for the 10-7 world title!!!
his wins over mg & dlh are still pretty remarkable.
