This fight takes place on March 14th at the St.Andrew's Sporting Club in Glasgow, it will be an eliminator for the British Featherweight Title. On paper it looks like a fascinating fight between two of Britain's best young prospects...

So who do you think will win this fight?

I heard Foster was fighting in a warm up bout on January 28th..but i didn't know that fight was for the WBU title and the Simpson fight was off.

its a terrible outcome for the fans, foster will fight some eastern european with a padded record, probably never been stopped just to make it look good and we wont get to see a decent fight. sky should put there foot down.

Don't get me wrong I am a fan of Foster. When I first saw him at the World Championships, he was the stand out boxer for me with his style and attitude. He showed alot of potential for the professional game, and I wasn't suprised that he got an offer to turn pro soon after.

Also I agree that was a very good win against (a faded) Thornhill and because of his power and style Steve is going to have to dig in, in alot of his fights.

Unfortunately though instead of taking on Simpson and Williams he has decided to avoid the domestic scene and fight for a title which has been vacant for over two years. Also it has no mandatories so when he wins it he can fight who he wants, whenever he wants.

Fair enough if he wants to earn so money, but I reckon this move will affect his credability and also he is already ranked as the number 7 Featherweight by the WBO which is a joke.

I seriously reckon he could have gone onto a good European standard, but with this Warren Boxing Union rubbish its gonna be very difficult to compare him to the other domestic fighters who have already shown that they respect the proper titles and want to fight for them.

STU - The title is vacant a bit like Mr Sharp.

Williams is fighting Nicky Cook for the British,Commonwealth and European title on 13th February 2005. Therefore if Foster was to fight Simpson in the middle of March it could be June before he fought for the domestic title.

So why should he fight an Eliminator on a dinner show when he can fight for a WBU world title fight in a packed large arena as chief support to Scott Harrison and live on SKY ?....THERE REALLY IS NO CHOICE.

Also if he looses the World title fight,he can always come back to domestic level.

8) Seems like I was spot on, he's doing it for the money.

WBU better than domestic....you must be what allegedly calls a 'mark' (allegedly)

Fair enough that early on in his career Foster wants to make some money and get some experience, but he can't dodge Williams, Simpson, McKeever, Rutherford etc and then call himself a world champion

I would say that Foster shouldn't rely on Harrison and Hatton undercards for big paydays. Cause if they were inactive for some reason then what shows would carry his Mickey Mouse undercard title? The British title is normally always main event.

I have compared the domestic champs to your 'World' champs (using Secondsout rankings):

Heavyweight - Britains Skelton better than Kandelaki (not defended since December 02)

Cruiserweight - WBU's Maccarinelli better than Hobson (though we'll never find out)

Light-Heavy - Britains Oboh better than VACANT

Super-Middleweight - WBU's Teymour better than Froch (maybe?)

Middleweight - WBU's Monteiro (suspended) better than Dann

Light-Middleweight - WBU's Alexander better than Jones

Welterweight - Britains Barnes better than VACANT (maybe Magees belt?)

Light Welterweight - WBU's Hatton better than Witter (though we'll never find out)

Lightweight - Britains Earl better than Tontchev (according to Boxrec)

Super Featherweight - WBU's Gomez better than Arthur/Docherty

Featherweight - Britains Williams better than VACANT

Super-Bantam - Britains Hunter better than VACANT.

There are some other differences like the British titles have mandatory defences. Also four wins and you get a Lonsdale belt to keep, four WBU wins and you get to meet Mickey Vann four times. :P

This would be a good fight I think Simmo would be favourite this time but its a very good 50/50 fight.. Foster is very good technically and that's what won him the last fight but I think John has improved and Foster has declined a little.. I would love to see this one again
