cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
well thats what many said about hatton when he got beat by manny.
im sorry but cotto has taken beatings vs manny and margarito , hatton defeats vs mayweather and manny were not brutal beatings.
hatton is fresher than cotto
so ppl if its good for hatton to be finished......is cotto
of course not.........he still has alot left to offer
hearns , benn and lewis all came back from knockout defeats.....so can hatton and cotto

Both still have plenty to offer, just not against the likes of Floyd or Pac, in my opinion.boxerbob wrote:well thats what many said about hatton when he got beat by manny.

It would be good to see them two get it on...
How would you see that?

Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
i agree, cotto is still a big draw, he got loads of fans in for his fight with jennings who wasnt any kind of name for the american fans and he's still one of the best weleterweights around just not in manny or floyd's league, they are exceptional, cotto is good.
Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
I think that both Hatton and Cotto can comeback from their losses to Pacquiao.
I think that they can both still compete at P4P level with the right match making.

Yup, agree with this comment.Horse wrote:I think that both Hatton and Cotto can comeback from their losses to Pacquiao.

Just because you lose a few fights, doesnt mean your finished.
Even in which the manner of these losses, to suggest that they are finished is ridiculus and probably illustrates whats wrong with boxing today.
Too many pampered fighters, not willing to take on the best. Those that do and lose are often classed as 'finished' or placed in the 'should retire' catagory.
Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
Cotto vs Hatton is a great fight now. I would like Ricky's chances actually. Cotto isn't a 12 round fighter no more and gets hurt in most of his fights.
I think Cotto is finished as a P4P fighter now. He might reign again cause I can see the titles being unified and then splintered off - but cannot see him beating the elite anymore. He looked almost as battered as he was vs Margarito.

Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
I don't like Hatton's chances against Cotto. Gets caught way too easy, but what a fight it could be.
Lot of interest I'd guess as well.

Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
Perhaps he has an agenda, but Billy Graham reckoned Hatton was spent before the Malignaggi fight. That was before he was put on queer street by Manny. That might not have been a brutal fight (mainly due to how brief it was), but that was a brutal knockout!
I'd be a bit worried bout seeing Ricky fight again at this stage. But we shall see!

Cotto is at or near his peak. He has been competing -- note that, competing, different from just sharing a ring, al a Hatton -- at the very highest level for several fights now.
He matched Pacquiao right through the fourth in some amazing give and take action. That alone tells you the quality of the man. He also beat Clottey last time out, a big, bull-strong welterweight, with a Winky Wright guard and a ram-rod jab, while fighting with a gash he could have given birth to twins out of.
He beat Mosley fairly recently.
Look, Cotto has been in some wars, so perhaps it is time to call it a day, but he's nowhere near as shop worn as Hatton, who hasn't looked convincing since fighting a demotivated, washed up Castillo, and who looked shaky against d-level Lazcano.
Cotto was beaten, but he went out on his feet.
Hatton was knocked out --clean out -- for several minutes, and had been rocked by everything that hit him. He didn't get close to providing either Mayweather or Pacquiao a tough night. Cotto did with the latter.
Don't you think that giving a stiff test to one of the greatest twenty boxers ever means that he isn't in such bad shape?
Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
Carbo,
Styles make fights and Cotto, whilst the Mosley win is something Hatton hasn't attained the level of in years... .it is 2 defeats and 1 very tough fight down the road from them. Those 3 fights were wars.
I would disagree that Hatton has NEVER been competitive against the top class.... Kostya Tszyu was as top class as they come.
Also think its a tad bias when it comes to Hatton vs Mayweather... .that was every bit as competitive as Cotto vs Pacquiao. Cotto won 2 rounds, Hatton won more than 2 rounds on my card vs Mayweather.

I think Miguel can go to 154lb like Cintron has done and maybe campaign there.
Or will be looking at the loser of Berto v Mosely.
Sure a Hatton fight could be a possibility, but it's all a little late in the day now for me.

Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
Cott is not finished, in fact he looked good vs Pacquaio early. Maybe if he had come in with the gameplan of outboxing Pacman, he might have done better. Instead he wanted to go after Pacman and thought he could impose his will and KO the little man. Unfortunately he didn't learn from De La Hoya or from Ricky hattons walloping at the hands of Pacman. He fought the wrong fight and the second knockdown took a lot out of Cotto. He actually had Pac frustrated at times when he was running towards the end. A fresher Cotto might have been able to adopt the running tactics that Mayweather will employ (Mayweather will make Usain Bolt look slow) in the fight. He would have lost still though.
But I would like to see Cotto fight Margarito again and give him a beating before retiring.

Agree with you re Hatton - Tszyu. That was remiss of me. But my point still holds if we replace never with recently.stujones wrote:Carbo,

Hatton was not as competitive against Mayweather as Cotto was against Pacquaio. Pacquaio cotto was close up until the second KD. Mayweather was comfortable throughout. May have lost a round or two, but that doesn't do justice to the ease with which he won.
I don't understand what styles make fights has to do with it.
Re: cotto should retire , he is finished , washed up
why do people always want fighters to retire these days after a couple of defeats ,cotto should have six months break then decide to carry on but not step straight into a top level fight

cotto has taken sever punishment which aint good for your health, the fact he is so resilient means his body suffers the reprocussions,he struggles @ welter & blows up & party's nearlly as bad as hatton.
but if he was too return it has to be at l.middle.
as 4 hatton i think his brother has more too offer these days :!: thats how gone i think he is,he dont live the life & its caught him up.

Whether Cotto is or isn't a 12 round fighter would be academic if he fought Hatton.stujones wrote:Cotto vs Hatton is a great fight now. I would like Ricky's chances actually. Cotto isn't a 12 round fighter no more and gets hurt in most of his fights.

Guys, we have to give Cotto credit for lasting so long. Hatton got blown away by Pacquiao! When Cotto got knocked down in the second, how many of us thought, at that stage, it would go to the last round? I certainly did not!
Cotto is a much better fighter than Hatton, always has been, & that's not meant to be disrespectful towards Ricky, its just my view. On his display against Cotto, Pacquiao is an even better fighter than the one who defeated De La Hoya & Hatton.
Cotto can comeback & I think a fight with Hatton is more likely to happen now that Miguel lost than if he were the winner on saturday night. I would fancy Cotto all day long against Hatton! Cotto showed some durability, he kept getting up.
Cotto is a great fighter. He has just lost to a phenomenon & there is no shame in that at all.
