Question: Why is it OK for Froch to endlessly smack-talk about Calzaghe and even proclaim himself Britain's pound-for-pound best sportsman (not just boxer), yet when Amir Khan makes a much less bombastic - and entirely legit - point about being a bigger draw, everyone starts foaming at the mouth?

Froch was trying to goad Calzaghe into a fight, I suppose.

And how on earth is the point entirely legit? Khan sold around 5000 tickets on his doorstep; Froch sold twice as many on his.

i think Khan sold a lot more than that on Carl's "doorstep".Put Froch on in the Bolton Arena.After his last fight,he will be lucky to get 2,000

you're talking to a man who went to Manchester the day before the fight, went to the shopping complex where the weigh in was to happen, armed with a camera and a marker pen for Barrera to sign the back of my shirt or sumthing...only to be told that the event had been cancelled and that he "thought"..it had been transferred to a nearby hotel to be conducted in private.

The entire bast*rd thing had been moved across the Corn Exchange or whatever the hell they call it, and was taking place 2 minutes walk from where I was stood and was open to the public and I missed the whole bast*rd thing, went home...100 miles plus, and came back the next day to watch the fight.

I AM a Khan fan, I like the kid, and his fighting style, and was looking forward to Cook, and also Hall-Pryce, but I DID go to that show on the strength that Marco Antonio Barrera was fighting. So you're wrong in my case, and, I suspect, in other peoples' cases.

My point is that people went to see Khan v Barrera as it was an intriguing fight. Most fans do not have the money to support fans blind, they go to a good fight, but not one where they don't know the opponent.
Hence Froch v Reid, was a better seller (although Robin was past it) than that Pole Froch beat last year.

Your right Gobbles it was an intriguing fight. But I know a lot of people that went for the chance to see Barrera in the flesh, a living legend. Hence loads of sombero's being worn.

Reid was sanctioned by the BBBoC as a British title defence. There was 12 weeks of camp / promoting time etc.

Then we had Inkin paid off, err i mean "he had a back injury"... then they re-arranged it again and surprise surprise the fight was sabotaged again and he pulled out with 2 week to go. Rubin Williams, Kingley Ikeke and Alejandro Berrio all turned it down and the pole was brought in with 2 days before the fight to go.

So really were comparing a main event with an undercard fight (Witter v Bradley was main fight in the end).

Went to Froch Tatevosyan and was amazed at how Froch cut off the ring in 2 strides and the power. I hadn't heard of Tat.

Although I was at that show anyway to watch another fight.

The qualities which Froch prides himself on, power, chin, testicles.....Kess has 'em all in spades too. Only he brings arguably more experience, and certainly more fluidity in his movement, and, I think, confidence in his own ability.

Froch could look pretty daft if he doesn't give at least a very good showing against a man Calzaghe beat convincingly.

technically, he perhaps could. we've seen one or two PPV spectaculars that delivered the #s on both sides of the pond, at light welter. and everyone knows his name over here. obviously haye has the advantage of being in the heavyweights & fights with the K2s = The Biggest Prize.

it is hard to keep track of who likes who. so haye likes khan and is mates with froch. froch seems to look up to haye but isn't convinced by khan. haye's critical of degale. etc.

obviously there are vested interests here. haye wouldn't like degale given he has his own super middle prospect, froch being a hennessy fighter won't like the FW fighter khan, etc.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I meant that Khan recently only shifted about 5000 tickets in Manchester whereas Froch sold twice as many in Nottingham.

Anyway, I think Khan was taking the p*ss when he said it.

OK, event-for-event, Froch drew more than Khan in their last contests, but I'd say that in overall terms, Khan is by far the bigger name with the general public.

I don't have a link handy, but he definitely said it in one or more national newspapers. I remember it causing quite a stir at the time. I'm sure he slagged off Beckham and Henman in the piece, too.
