Jr Lightweights: Hector Camacho vs Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Post by elmersalsa »

How about this explosive match?

Hector "Macho" Camacho vs "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather...A great fight between two complete fighters.

Indeed it was Floyd's best weight, but Camacho is an all timer in regards to speed, and we saw that even a B level guy with speed like Judah could take rounds off Floyd. Mayweather by decision, but closer than some may think.

Sometimes people make Camacho out to seem like some kind of joke or something. Before Gomez he was one bad dude with some of the fastest hands of all time.

Honestly though I still think Mayweather wins this one.

People forget that Camacho was an excellent, excellent fighter at both Jr. Light & Lightweight. What happened later in his career took the gloss off a once-formidable fighter, who'd give Mayweather a run for his money, all twelve rounds.

I think it's hard to be sure. On a same day weigh in Floyd would be so drained he'd get whipped. With a weigh in the day before etc... I think it's a 50-50 fight. Neither man would hold a significant advantage over the other.

A level fighters don't lose to B and C fighters in their primes while on top.

I agree with you Ezzard...Lots of people forgot how good the Macho Man was in his prime at jr lightweight. I don't know what happened when he fought Edwin "Chapo" Rosario afterwards. He lost interest in boxing I guess.

He's not the most mentally stable fighter to ever lace them up either. Aside from some of his low points in the ring, I could point to his punching of a shower door, and the subsequent hand injury which cost him a chance to fight Mosley.
