Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
i also think ricky should stick to what he does best ie stay on the piss and keep well away from competitive boxing contests.
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
oh my god marquez will batter him inside 4 :!: hatton is weak at lww none effective as a welter so basically finished imo.
he cant mix with the elite.
he should go back to his wbu days & box chumps who he's lining up for his brother & milk it,or a cotto fight would be better as he's been smashed worst then jordan.

Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
I remember that, i was planning to go to that fight before Marquez knackered his hand. I was going there to do some business anyway but chose those dates so i could see Marquez in action. I've still never seen him live. So i'd make the journey to Manchester to see this.
It occured to me after his one sided loss to Mayweather this would be the perfect way back. I can see this looking this a lot like Marquez v Diaz with Juan Manuel weathering some early rough stuff to pick Hatton apart with hard precision counters and take him out not far past the half way mark.

Marquez will box him to a standstill.
Tell me something Hatton does better than Pacman and I'll listen.
Until then shush.
Marquez W10-11 - Hatton stays on his stool or is pulled out.
Marquez will pick him off all night. Hatton has no head movement, is a sucker for the jab these days, doesn't move his feet as quickly as you lot are tyring to convinve yourself he can and doesn't have Pacman's hand speed.
Marquez outboxed Pacman in there first fight for 10 rounds and forced a SD in their second.
JMM at his best dismantles Hatton piece by piece.

Yeah, don't think that Hatton is fast enough any more, he doesn't have the engine he once had, and his feet have definitely slowed.
Also, Marquez was able to survive everything Pacman dished out in their second fight, so I don't see what Hatton has that will worry him.

Of course he does but is JMM at his best anymore? I don't think so, I think Manny would stop him very easily if they fought at 140/147 now.DavidPayne wrote:JMM at his best dismantles Hatton piece by piece.
If Hatton has anything left then JMM may be small enough to bully, he looked very blown up and soft against Mayweather. He looked decent against Casamayor and Diaz but he didn't look like vintage Marquez.
I would pick JMM to outbox Ricky and stop him late or win a wide UD but there is a possibility that Ricky could be too strong and powerful for JMM. Not a bad fight for Ricky, JMM is a big name and very marketable.
I would love to see Khan fight the winner of this.

At least both will be getting a decent payday out of this but does Hatton really need to disfigure his legacy even further?
The dispiriting thing about this proposed event is; even if Hatton were to somehow come out on top, it would just prove that JMM is on the wane.

Devils advocate.
Wasn't Hattons best performance since Tszyu the one prior to his defeat to pacquiao, who has himself proved to be a very special fighter at 140 and above? Is everyone judging Hatton on his defeat to the #1 / 2 p4p fighter on the planet, and probably the #1 p4p puncher on the planet.

Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
People were saying Hatton looked reborn after the Malignaggi fight then he gets stopped by Pacquiao with a great shot (which now after watching a great fighter like Cotto get flattened is not so shocking).
And suddenly he's finished.
Sure, his better days are behind him - but i've seen him blow big between all his fights and he could still put a performance on against JMM.
It make for a good event in the boxing calendar and i'd imagine that they'd get a few Hatton Promotion fighters and Goldenboy fighters on the undercard.
On another note, If he aint been sparked again... i'd guess for Khan Promotions to try fight the winner![[icon_neutral.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

Tell you one thing: if Hatton somehow beats Marquez, it's going to make Mayweather look really, really bad.

No it won't - Mayweather dominated him in every single round without breaking a sweat - what hatton does is an utter irrelevence.Carbo wrote:Tell you one thing: if Hatton somehow beats Marquez, it's going to make Mayweather look really, really bad.
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
What, so, if Hatton beats Marquez at 140 -- closer to the Mexican's best weight -- it won't diminish Mayweather's effort at all? It won't suggest that Marquez is actually a fighter well on the decline? No way a peak Marquez, or Marquez at his peack weight, P4P, would lose to Hatton. So how would a Hatton win reflect on Mayweather's points win?? Not well.jamesmcdonnell wrote:No it won't - Mayweather dominated him in every single round without breaking a sweat - what hatton does is an utter irrelevence.Carbo wrote:Tell you one thing: if Hatton somehow beats Marquez, it's going to make Mayweather look really, really bad.
James, surely how we rate fighters depends not just on the quality of the men they've fought, but the quality of the men they fought at the time they fought them. Mayweather's current rating is drawn in part from his sensational-looking performance against Marquez. But, really, given the weight, and given Marquez's age, as well as the ring battles in which he's been involved of late, we really don't have a guidepost against which to judge that performance independently of itself until Marquez fights again. However, if Marquez is shown by a Hatton win to be well past his peak, or operating well beyond his optimum weight -- which I contend a Hatton win would clearly illustrate -- then surely that affects our current rating of Mayweather by tarnishing his performance against Marquez as one against a man well, well past his peak.

Nobody with any sense is basing his reputation on beating a bloated Marquez - are you insane - he got very little credit for that fight.,Carbo wrote:What, so, if Hatton beats Marquez at 140 -- closer to the Mexican's best weight -- it won't diminish Mayweather's effort at all? Oh, really?jamesmcdonnell wrote: Nobody with any sense is basing his reputation on beating a bloated Marquez - are you insane - he got very little credit for that fight.,
So nobody was wowed by the performance? Nobody said that he'd lost nothing for his break? Nobody said he was back as number 1 p4p? Nobody's basing his current level ability on his only fight in almost three years?
OK, then, if that's the case, then fine.
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
Ricky is an idiot if he takes this fight at 140lb. He can't make that weight in a healthy manner anymore. He uses his training camp to lose weight instead of working on tactics and gameplans. Make the fight at 145 and Hatton will have a bit more durability and might actually compete with Marquez. At 140 Hatton stays competative until Marquez lands a right hand and ends it.
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
I suspect he could make the weight healthily if he had Kerry Kayes with him.

Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
I think that's about the size of it, dominant performance, showed he hadn't rusted with the time out of the ring, but seriously, how many people expected Marquez to win.Carbo wrote:Oh, really?jamesmcdonnell wrote: Nobody with any sense is basing his reputation on beating a bloated Marquez - are you insane - he got very little credit for that fight.,

The fight merely showed he was still top dog P4P - but Pacman has now surged past him by destroying Cotto.
I think most people on here would agree, that right now Pacman is the top dog would they? Based on the last few years of his career.
Re: Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs
Pacman is the #1 P4P now in my opinion his last few performances have been superb and to do what he did to Cotto was very impressive.
Hatton v Marquez would be a great fight but I think weight is an issue. Does Marquez want the fight at welterweight? I dont think he does so Hatton may have to fight at light welter.
Ricky wont have a lot of pressure on him, this would be his last hurrah and hopefully in Manchester it will be a great opportunity for him.
I dont care if people on here say Hatton shouldnt take the fight blah blah blah, it's totally up to Ricky and it would be bloody brilliant for UK fight fans to have one more Hatton fight night and this time in Manchester.

We have been hearing about this potential fight for a while - have to say whilst the above is harsh and to the point - it is also my view on how the fight goes too.DavidPayne wrote:Marquez will box him to a standstill.
JMM at his best dismantles Hatton piece by piece.
I hope JMM comes with ambition and the will to win - if he does Ricky is in trouble.

good clash of styles.
it'll be tough against a spiteful counter puncher like marquez though.
the tougher they come the harder they get hit though right.
come on rick.

watching that cotto fight i was relieved hatton got sparked.G0mez wrote:People were saying Hatton looked reborn after the Malignaggi fight then he gets stopped by Pacquiao with a great shot (which now after watching a great fighter like Cotto get flattened is not so shocking).

cos cotto was in deep lumber.
in an ideal world i'd like to see hatton in with someone like alexander or bradley.
guys who aren't as spiteful as what marquez can be.
but marquez is a name and hatton wants a big name.
plus they got a stadium to fill by the looks of it.

Maybe so - but I really suspect Hatton's punch resistance is still there - we will see if he comes back - if he does - whilst the pay day will be there it will be a massive gamble in boxing terms!!SnoopyLoopy wrote:I think JMM would beat him BUT JMM is slow and can be hurt
