Ricky Hatton speaks officially about his plans

Post by nigeltsport »

Ricky has told Hatton TV that a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez is by no means "done & dusted" and that he hasn't made a decision about a comeback yet and won't until after Christmas / New Year

Fight with Marquez won't happen until May 2010 anyway, because Ricky will need ample time to shed the weight!

Love the fact that he isn't planning anything until after Christmas and the new year, he knows how much he's gonna put away and doesn't want to commit to anything just yet. Maybe if he took his career as seriously as his drinking he wouldn't have turned into a sad parody of himself. Still hope if he comes back he can pull something out the bag, its just hard not to be frustrated with the guy.

The guy was a two weight world champion, number #1 in a devision for 4 years and you think he doesn't take his career seriously!

He can retire with his head held high. I also hope he comes back for Khan, but he doesn't need to prove anything.

'Was' being the operative word. You can't live the life Hatton does and expect to get away with it in the ring. Take a look at all those guys fighting well into there 30's and look at how they treat there bodies then take a look at Hatton. If he is serious about fighting on he should be getting himself in shape now, not waiting 'til after his Christams binge. I got no problem with him wanting to enjoy himself or piling on the pounds, its his life he can do what he wants with it, but I can't ignore it and laugh it off like its not having a detrimental effect on his career. Like you say, he spent 4 years at the top of his division, but he'll go down as the fat lad who got sparked by two ring legends....

I think exactly the same thing about Duran.... Any sport if you want to make it to the top you have to give yourself every chance at winning. Hatton can say and do what he wants, its his career, but lets not make out he has poured his heart and soul into his career. Can you honestly say all the drinkning has helped his career? Do you really think a training camp should be dedicated to losing your beer gut when your going up against the p4p best?

The thing is though, Duran was a defensive master, and was able to get away with taking liberties with himself - he was so much more talented than 90% of the guys he faced.

Hatton is not on that level, and he got to the top with fitness, drive, aggression and strength.

These things are not aided by swilling down guinness and eating like a pudendum in between bouts, then spending 6 weeks shedding weight furiously in camp - those six weeks could be spent far better.

He can do. But I imagine he will more likely retire with his head held down, chin on chest, drooling into a half empty pint of Guinness.

Hatton was a good fighter, but only because he went to 40-0 and only ever had 1 real test.

AND he had DAVE 'Bent as they come' Parrish as the ref!

Path of least resistance has come back to bite him in his bottom! :OhYes:

If he went the way most fighters did - clearing up UK and Europe (Witter!!)we would not have heard much about him.

Pampered Fwank Warren puppet and when he really steps up he gets crushed like
no one ges crushed.

PBF does not know people out AND Pac took 9 rounds to beat Diaz and Diaz was not
knocked out quickly as Hatton.

Stay retired and enjoy your money and health....Please.

True, although I hope he doesn't come back for Khan. I'd hate to see him go out getting put away by Khan. If he's going to come back he might as well go after Cotto.

So by that reckoning is everyone who won a UD against Baldomir as good as Pbf? That guy who knocked him out in the second round must be better than Floyd then to.
No one said that. BUT.

2 fights against 2 prime smaller fighters and knocked out twice without landing a worthwhile punch either time. Good fighter but nothing special. Fact .

He may have hurt Pacquiao for an instant, but ultimately, so what? Pacquiao took it and brutally KOd him within minutes.

I like Hatton but if he keeps fighting I don't think he'll do himself any favours. He looked terrible on the scales for Manny and even worse in the fight. He's taken far too much out of his body over the years and there's no amount of training that will do anything about that now. I fear he's in denial about this and is in for another bruising loss.

what a load of sh.ite about hatton on here....

1...when he beat tszyu..............tszyu was old and past it........load of sh.ite

2...when he went up in weight and beat collazo at late notice.......he was lucky........load of sh.ite , he won the fight and knocked collazo down

3...when he knocked out castillio.......castillio was old and past it......load of sh.ite....it was a 50-50 fight before hand

4...he should have retired when he went up in weight and fought the best fighter in the planet and got beat.......load of sh.ite , he gave a good performance for 6 rounds then mayweather just destroyed him.

5....hatton beats malinaggi......malinaggi is crap though to some in this forum

6....pacman destroys hatton.........hatton then is finished , a bum , never beat anybody good etc etc etc

i sorry but hatton gets a raw deal on here......what about "super joe" , how many guys like tszyu dis joe beat?????......none , not 1 , nil , zilch

his best win was against kessler who aint anything near great.

also...nigel benn , lennox lewis, tommy hearns to name a few were knocked out twice.....were they finished??? , no they came back and won world titles....is cotto finished???...i could go on

hatton was a genuine top 10 pound for pound fighter when he reigned at 140lbs....he aint finished , if you know that then please tell what the numbers are for the euro millions lottery are.....nobody knows what hatton has left , not untill his next fight and not untill he fights someone like marquez

I thought Hatton looked badly on the slide against Lazcano. At the time I thought perhaps it was in part because it was his first fight after defeat to Floyd. Now I think I was correct in my first analysis. Credit to him, he put in a good performance against Malignaggi but I don't rate Paulie and never thought he had the tools to trouble Hatton. I think the ease with which Pacquiao bombed him out reflects what he has left. The Ricky of a few years ago would have lost to Manny but I don't think he'd have been bombed out like he was.

I'll hold my hands up if I'm wrong and would love to be proved wrong, I just can't see it.

He did not knock collazo down. Feet crossed. Boxerbob. Hatton never beat anyone top class in their prime. Not 1! Overrated and people like you encouraging him to fight on are as bad as he is. No one wants to see him hurt but if be carries on he might.

was it called a knockdown???.........yes it was because he landed a good punch on his chin

kostya tszyu was a 3-1 on fav to beat hatton , he was very near to his best the fight before he lost to hatton

going on whats said on here.....if you are beat twice and by ko then you are crap....finished and should retire???......did you hear that manny???? , you should have retired years ago

did you hear that tommy hearns.....you should have retired after the hagler defeat

did you hear that lennox lewis???.....you should have retires after losing to rahman

did you here that nigel benn??.....you should have retired when beaten by eubank

did you hear that miguel cotto....you should retire now as you are finished

It was not a knockdown.collazo bundled over. Watch the you tube clip. Kt was past it and so was castillo. Hatton is not crap but he us way below the elite of the sport. He is a cashcow. Hatton needs to retire. Fact. Calm down. Also Hatton was knocked down in the last round but was not counted against collazo. Hatton is b minus level. :OhYes:
