Herbie Hide
Herbie Hide
Will he return? He had a complete fluke of a loss, and nobody who watched the fight actually thought that guy deserved the win. How much do people think this would've affected his confidence?
Just seems whenever Hide is getting anywhere, he suffers a shock loss. Can he make a comeback?

Hide will always be dangerous because he has good power. But Herbie has been around for a long time and has always come up short at World level. I can't see him improving at this stage of his career to be honest even with todays less than awsome World Title holders.
A lot of Hides problems he has brought upon himself and if he ever sets foot on UK soil again I assume his first opponent will be the Police.
It would however be interesting to see him in against Harrison, Skelton or Williams, but we have been saying that for years, and before that we were saying the same thing about Hide fighting Lewis,Mason, Bruno and Akinwanda. But they never happened either.

The cut loss was just very bad luck, the Chingangu loss could be put down to a fluke..these are heavyweights, and Hides chin has never been his best asset, and he did put him away soon after.
But his other two losses were comprehensive, there was no bad luck or fluke attributed to them, only the misfortune of facing the top guys of the time.
But the heavyweight scene is terrible, Bowe is washed up and the other fella who beat Hide properly is the world number1, so why can’t Hide do something if he gets serious, he’s young enough.
Skelton is the most dangerous out of the British heavies for him, he is raw enough to be unorthodox, Audley does not like a fight, Sprott would fair the same as Danny Williams and would probably catch too many from Hide.

I think style wise Skelton is all wrong for Herbie Hide. Hide has more Boxing talent I have no doubt. But I feel Skelton strength, agression and relentless pressure would mentaly then physically grind Herbie Hide down to a mid round stoppage.
Interseting fight though. Herbie's speed would of course give Skelton some problems but Hide is a bit of a bully in the ring, a bit of a on top fighter (like Tyson). I don't think Skelton would allow himself to be bullyed by the nautrually smaller Norwich fighter. And Hide would not like that at all.

The truth about Hide is he is basically a bully and has no chin... he has speed and some power and can look impressive against journeymen but when ever he is pitted against someone even approaching world class he is blown away...... most of Hides opposition has been abysmal, his best win was vs Bennt... who went into their fight with a brain injury...... anyone who can throw a punch has a chance against Hide as he can barely take a clip to the chin!...
Its not laughable, many people other than me have called Hide a bully and his reputation among most in the boxing world speaks for itself!... look at all the times he has instigated fights and trouble outside the ring often with people he is about to fight in order to try and intimidate them!.tonyevs wrote:Hide has only been blown away by Bowe and Vitali, no shame there.
The other was something of a fluke, and to call him a bully or any other top boxer is laughable, these gifts are learnt, not something anybody is born with, Hide had to learn them and it hurts having to learn them.
Bowe and Vitali are top fighters true but if you look at Hides record they are the only 'live' fighters he has faced!.... he only fought Vitali because he was going to be stripped of the title otherwise!.
The Chingangu fight was not a fluke... the guy hit him and koed him! if thats a fluke then you may as well say every ko in boxing is a fluke as the object of the sport is to hit and be hit basically!.
Some fighters are bullys though very few... Tyson is a bully... what else can you call a man who bites peoples ears off when he is losing fights!...
If Hide fought Chingangu 100 times he’d most likely beat him in 99 of those, the punch was not a fluke, just him landing it, did he do it in the return? Has he done that since, the guy is a decent puncher..who got lucky.
Just because other people have said he`s a bully does not mean its true, maybe they just repeat things like yourself.
Other fighters have vacated rather than fight their mandatory, Hide didn’t, he faced it.
Very many boxers have tussled before a fight, Barrera did not long ago.
Tyson biting was out of order, it is well recorded Tyson is a Jekyll and Hyde character, his medication doesn’t help, but he is not a bully and nor is Hide, they are small heavyweights fighting big heavies…bully’s by nature pick on the little guy, not the bigger ones.
Hide and Tyson can be nasty people but I think to label them a bully is the wrong description.

Hide fights mostly bums and washed up fighters... he enjoys beating up on sparring partners and has been involved in a multitude of unsavoury incidents outside the ring... and he has never come from behind to win a fight... he falls apart in the ring once he is hit or cut!....if all these things don't make him a bully what would???tonyevs wrote:If Hide fought Chingangu 100 times he’d most likely beat him in 99 of those, the punch was not a fluke, just him landing it, did he do it in the return? I have spoken to many people who have met Mike Tyson, from Journalists and writers to boxers and just plain fans, who have testified to what a pleasant character he is.....some of the time obviously.tonyevs wrote:If Hide fought Chingangu 100 times he’d most likely beat him in 99 of those, the punch was not a fluke, just him landing it, did he do it in the return? I have to be honest, everybody I have ever spoken to about Hide had nothing good to say about him.
I think Herbie has some big problems, which are not helped by his other weaknesses.
I am not trying to say that Hide is the nicest person you could meet, just like I wouldn’t say he’s the worst….I have never met him, but to label any top boxer a bully is something I do not agree with, just like when I see some boxers called a coward, these two names are something that gets disproved the minute they step through those ropes.
A lot of these antics (not all) are to sell a certain show, you’ve seen Tyson eyeballing an opponent, there are probably pictures taken of him a second or so after laughing with his supposed arch enemy, its just the grudge factor sells fights.

For all of his offensive advantages Hide has a really vulnerable chin, Bowe was a big puncher but it was just a run of the mill jab that first had him in trouble and Herbie's legs suddenly went from under him. Vitali could also punch but didn't really land flush yet again Hide's eyes were rolling in the back of his head. I fear for his chin and i doubt he will ever reach the top level again.
Hide did seem to momentarily stun Bowe at one point but I doubt it was the hardest shot he ever took. Hide's performance was laughable though he was falling to the canvas without shots landing I can remember laughing myself to tears watching it.tonyevs wrote:Was this part of the act when he was claiming he had brain damage.KOJOE90 wrote:Bowe was quoted as saying that the hardest punch he ever took was off Herbie Hide.![]()

I remember feeling a little sorry for Herbie at the time. As soon as Bowe landed a really significant shot Hide was jumping all over the place and flinching every time Bowe looked like he was about to think about moving one of his arms. It was as if the anticipation of the punches was hurting Hide just as badly as the punches themselves. It still reminds me a little of Frazier's effort against Foreman, very much a rabbit caught in the headlights.007 wrote:Hide did seem to momentarily stun Bowe at one point but I doubt it was the hardest shot he ever took. I would't call him a bully in the ring, but would indeed describe him as an on top fighter.tonyevs wrote:I am not trying to say that Hide is the nicest person you could meet, just like I wouldn’t say he’s the worst….I have never met him, but to label any top boxer a bully is something I do not agree with, just like when I see some boxers called a coward, these two names are something that gets disproved the minute they step through those ropes.

Of course second hand stories about people aren't very reliable, and I'm not one to badmouth someone I've never met, but Herbie does seem to have some issues.
With regard to the Bowe fight, it was a bizzarre way to go down. The first shot which caught him, was a right hand which merely seemed to clip the top of his head, it really took it out of Herbie though, and he went down punching the canvas and cursing himself. After that he was well and truly gunshy, and looked wobbled every time Bowe landed.
As for Herbie hitting Bowe the hardest, I think that must have been said shortly after the fight. Holyfield knocked the shit out of Bowe in their third fight with a left hook, and Golota knocked him around like a ten pin. Herbie landed a couple of pretty impressive shots, but there's no way he hit him harder than those two guys.

Bowe said it at the post fight press conference. If I remember rightly Herbie was trying to get Bowe to admit that he'd hurt him.

Bowe also mentioned how hard Hide had hit him in a recent Boxing News interview/article.007 wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:I would't call him a bully in the ring, but would indeed describe him as an on top fighter.tonyevs wrote:I am not trying to say that Hide is the nicest person you could meet, just like I wouldn’t say he’s the worst….I have never met him, but to label any top boxer a bully is something I do not agree with, just like when I see some boxers called a coward, these two names are something that gets disproved the minute they step through those ropes.

I'm am the One and Only!!
Yes, that's all fine and dandy... but does anyone have real knowledge if and when he will make a comeback??
Hide should move to Vegas and take on some decent US fighters.... Like Vaughn Bean, Terrence Lewis, Robert Davis, etc....
