'I've got too much respect for him, blah, blah'
'By the time I get to that level he'll be calling it a day' - ok kinda true
what he DIDNT say - 'no-one likes to get the sh1t kicked out of them'

I'm pretty sure Khan could box behind the jab and nullify Pacquiao subsequently fighting his way to a unanimous decision thus becoming the P4P # 1
Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
Sorry, yes, my mistake. Amir 'Force of Nature' Khan would do what all the world class boxers of recent years have failed to do. Easily.Hagler2002 wrote:I'm pretty sure Khan could box behind the jab and nullify Pacquiao subsequently fighting his way to a unanimous decision thus becoming the P4P # 1

Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
He has probably been smashed by the Pac Man straight left in sparring enough times to know he would get slaughtered in a real fight. Dont blame him for wanting nothing to do with Pac Man. He should stick to fighting slow and light punching Jewish fighters IMO.
Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
There we go- a subtle, but fairly obvious, confession from a "World" Champion that there are people in his sport at a higher level than he is.
True, of course, but rarely said.

Yeah, in a ideal world you wouldn't be hearing "once i'm at that level" from a world champion.whicker wrote:There we go- a subtle, but fairly obvious, confession from a "World" Champion that there are people in his sport at a higher level than he is.

Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
What is it with everyone giving Khan so much shit? I'm thinking of setting up a site called abuseamirkhanforfun.com because I'm bound to get shit-loads of hits.
He gets the big build-up, fails to live up to the hype cos he basically has the wrong training team who fail to bring the best out of him and being a young lad must have got caught up in his own hype to some extent, big deal!, gets obliterated in a round, then jets off to America to Pacman and Roach's house to learn how to fight as a professional.
He comes back, has a nice little warm-up, then finishes off legendary Barrera, then moves up in weight to give an experienced, world-class champion in Kotelnik a beat-down like no other fighter, (not even Witter), and all he gets is crap.... Oh, and what is he... 22? On top of that, he's only had 21 bloody fights!!!
Give the lad a break. While he may not be the second coming he's an excellent young talent who has shown the courage to fight back from a devastating knockout to win a world title and taken his medicine and jetted off to train with and learn from arguably the best boxer on the planet today.
Give him a break and let's see how he goes over his next few fights before we just slag him off for the fun of it.

So's Floyd Mayweather Jr. but that doesn't deter your love for him does it?Gray-Fox wrote:Cos he's a tosser.

Floyd's actually a good boxer and he seems like a genuine guy in many of his interviews.banjo wrote:So's Floyd Mayweather Jr. but that doesn't deter your love for him does it?Gray-Fox wrote:Cos he's a tosser.

Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
I rewatched Pacman Cotto the other night, and I have to say, he's absolutely phenomenal. He has an extra gear that other fighters just don't seem to have, and what's really impressive is how cultured his defence and movement has become.
I don't know of any fighter I've ever seen who can punch so fast, so hard and from so many angles, whilst still moving around on the balls of his feet.
I thought Cotto was doing quite well on first watching - but having watched it again, it was just a matter of time before he was ripped to bits - Pacman was just so much quicker, and Cotto whilst he had a few moments couldn't hurt him.
Cotto landed a flush uppercut in round 3, snapping Pacman's head back, and it had absolutely no effect.
The only way I see anyone hurting Pacman is with body shots, he definitely looked a little stung by Cotto's body shots.

If you dont like Amir Khan just say it. No need to make excuses.
If you really feel someone is not a good boxer, that still does not give anyone an excuse to hate someone does it? What are you? 5?
Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
personally I wish him all the luck and glory in the world, nice to have a UK champion etc etc.... part of that luck and glory includes not getting smashed to pieces by the wrecking ball that is pacmanDIRT SUGAR wrote:What is it with everyone giving Khan so much poop? Re: BBC NEWS: Khan won't fight Pacman
When he says things like 'when I get to that level' I take it as mark of a young man with huge ambition who wants to do well in the sport. He won Olympic silver at 19 ffs, why shouldn't he be confident.
And if anything, Khan's playing down fighting the likes of Pacquiao not saying he'll be ready to bash them up next year.
I think Khan's problem was a lack of nurturing after the Olympics. He never really looked settled and didn't know whether to be a mover or banger and trying to be both got him in trouble that's all. Same happened to a very talented light-heavyweight Olympic gold winner Andrew Maynard who never really made the transition from amateur to pro despite having loads of ability.
Freddie Roach seems to have given Khan the platform he needs to build on his undoubted athletic ability. That was a very impressive fight over 12 rounds against Kotelnik, who's extremely durable and would probably last the distance against most world-class fighters at 140lb yet Khan made him look very ordinary.
After all the flack he's taking I hope Khan goes on to have a stellar career. I don't think he's as fragile as he's made out to be, I just think he needed the right trainer and set-up and he'd have been totally revealed to be a busted flush at the Wild Card long before he got anywhere near Kotelnik.
Also, from what I've heard, he's sparred very well with Pacquiao. What more could you expect from a 21-fight, 22-year-old 'novice' world champion? Pacman said he's the fastest lightweight he's ever been in the ring with.
I really hope he puts on a show in his first defence and keeps proving people wrong.

Same mate, i like the humility of it, i was just commenting on the fact that there is a hidden subtext to his words, namely 'no-one likes to get the sh1t kicked out of them'
more fighters should follow that logic, look at Jennings, Lockett for recent examples.

Indeed, he comes across as a perfectly decent, down to Earth guy.
However, where there IS lots of room for criticism is his career path.
He has, clearly, been manounvered to the "World" title , missing fights that he really should have had. British title, being an obvious one.
His boxing against Barerra was indeed excellent, but Barerra was suffering from a serious accidental injury.
Indeed, his win over Kotelnik was a great perfromance- the best of his career.
However, in my mind he is not yet close to being a proper World Champion, and shouldn't be thought of as such.

Yeah he's not gone the traditional Brit/Euro/World title route but he's beaten Kotelnik who's about as good as it gets this side of the pond Hatton withstanding so really he's proved he's better than that.whicker wrote:For me, it's not a personnal dislike.black panther wrote:

And as holder of one of the main titles he'll have to face top-notch opposition somewhere down the line.
And way he was treated after he got knocked out I think best thing he did was go to America and get away from the hype.
I think we've not seen the best of Khan by a long stretch yet. (now watch him go get blown out in his first defence.
