Unhappy Gumati

Post by Captain Hook »

Interview with Omar Gumati with a bit from Matko....

I've heard mixed reactions, some saying Mat won it and others saying Gumati did enough...

Any thoughts are welcomed.

i was there and to be honest it was a fair result gumati wasnt hard done by imo, i personally had it level goin in to the last and mat took that round clearly, but there was a lot of round that were hard to score as they could be given either way, a couple of rounds gumati started really well for first min then backed off as if the round was in the bag, but mat kept on and seemed to have more sucess in the second half of those rounds. it was very close and a draw is fair on both fighters after a great fight.
also gumati says in the interview that he took the fight last minute, i dont think thats true as i remember checking to see who mat was fighting a while ago and im pretty certain it was gumati

i had it a draw...4 rounds a piece and 2 even

and he didnt have it last minute...his name has been on the poster for at least 6/8 weeks.... so if he was only told last minute then VIP did well advertising he was fighting before he knew about it

Sounds like a cracking main event, anyway- competative boxing- exactly what boxing needs at the moment.

Just read the interview , headlined I hammered Alex and really do not believe that that was said.

It was a good contest and everyone I have spoken to said a draw was a fair result , a few thought Alex and won , a few thought he lost.

Once I get confirmation when the hand will be ready we can do it again , my personal opinion is Alex can do a lot better and will win the rematch . I may well be wrong but the only way to find out is by doing it again and I will try and sort that out.

Yeah, agreed, I don't write the headlines sadly but nowhere did he say that...

Matt was nowhere near his best and I feel normally he'd have no problems dealing with Omars style but thats boxing and was a belter.

I had it even going into the last round also and was updating a mutual friend round by round so at the end had Matt one round up after winning the last round.
Omar came accross as a nice guy and a good tidy boxer but a little dillusional if he thinks he won the first half of the fight comfortably - it ebbed and flowed throughout and Some rounds which Matt should have won he threw away by getting caught with daft shots which i know he is frustrated about.

Ive seen Robberys and this was in no way whatsoever a bad decision or a robbery. I had Matt one up but cant argue with a draw, I can even see why a couple of rounds could have swayed to Omar but to state anyone won clearly - thats just rubbish and I think if he watches it back on DVD he will accept the fact that he perhaps has rose tinted glasses on a little or has listened too much to friends wanting to say the right thing to him after the fight.

A rematch would be great and with matt knowing what to expect this time and if he gets his condition right r I tip him to win by late stoppage.

I went to the fight, and for the record I train at the same gym as Omar, but I do try to look at boxing as objectivly as possible.
The trouble with some of Omars work is that the short , cute punches he throws are often missed, and I think this was the case during this fight.
I had Omar winning the first 6 rounds, rounds 7+8 could have gone either way , with Alex winning the last 2.
It was a good scrap and hopefully Omar will get his chance of a rematch. Was a great atmosphere and all in all made for enjoyable afternoons boxing.
