As you may have read elsewhere, Jane and Alan Wilton are running a good old fashioned domestic card in Belfast on Friday 20th November. Link to article:

Anyone going or have any opinions about the fights??

Looks like a solid and enjoyable show. Hughes will certainly give value for money in the main event, but it would be a massive upset if he could win this.

Debut V Debut fights are always good to see, too, and the price looks decent too.

Jose Saenz (Acosta's rejected title fight opponent) has turned up in a proposed 8 rounder against Steve Molitor next weekend. Which further perplexes me as to why the WBA went thumbs-down on him in this contest.

Looking forward to seeing how JJ McDonagh gets on in the pros, seem him a few times as a amateur in the National Stadium, hes a handy boxer. Its a pity about Acostas original opponent but Hughes should be able to give him more ringtime than his previous opponents, prob a 4th/5th round stoppage in Acostas favour. Good chance for Gav Prunty to grab another win also, looked good in his last bout all be it against a moving punch bag!

Thanks for clearing that up MR, I was a bit worried when I saw Prunty's name there and thought I had maybe dropped a bollock on my info. Alio has a link-up with the Graham Earl crowd in Luton though and I think that's where Putney comes from. Gavin Prunty who calls himself "The Pimpernel" is scheduled for Dublin on 5th December - the Macklin undercard.

Deno, as for recording the evening, Gareth would tell you better but I imagine someone will be filming it as they usually do so and then it comes out on DVD shortly after. I'll check it out tonight.

Hughes looks like he took a bit of a beating there.

He's had a tough few fights recently, thats for sure.

As for me i am now done. Going to get married in june and watch boxing from thn right side of the ropes. Thanks for all ur kind words guys.

I'd personally like to thank you for the many memorable fights you've provided me through the years.
The Corcoran fight(which you had in the bag till being prematurely stopped in the last), the Callaghan fight, Pickering II(the first may be a greater memory in your career, but unfortunately most of us didn't get to see it).

You've fought 2 former World champions, 4 former European champions and fought quality such as Mayhar Monshipour, Bernard Dunne, Steve Foster jnr, Michael Hunter, Esham Pickering, Jason Booth. What I'd like to know is who you think the greatest fighter you've fought is and what do you think your greatest achievement(I'd guess Pickering) and biggest disappointment in the sport are ?

As for Acosta being taken to pieces by Jason Booth, well that's what you'd expect would happen to a 21 year old 9 fight novice when he comes up against a potentially fringe World Class fighter(at least European level), who is vastly experienced and extremely slick. Acosta only turned pro just over a year ago so I think that sort of comparison is a little unfair right now.

Ah- Early stoppage have been happening a lot recently- especially when the home fighter is a "hot prospect..."

biggest achdeivement will have to b the pickering upset as it catipulted me from unknown to where i got to in my career. Ive enjoyed all off it apart from making the 8st 6 to 8st 10 limit. Anybody who knows me knows i walk around at 10st so wasnt fun looking skinny! Yeah my comment that booth would school him was maybe a premature for the timing of his career but i think he should b stepped up to that level with a 9-0 (9 kos) record. He will only find out how good hes going to be by raising his game.

Opinion at ringside wavered from "The writing was on the wall", "It was only a matter of time" etc. But the general consensus was that it was premature.

I thought it was stopped a wee bit too early. The referee should have taken Hughes' championship experience into account and I said that to Michael Marsden who agreed. Irving does have a tendency dive in when fighters are taking shots on the ropes.

Oh and for the stats men: Michael Devine stopped Michael Harvey in two rounds. Gavin Putney stopped Niall Diamond in the fourth and final round. Paddy McDonagh outpointed Grigor Sarohanian 39-37.

Some great posts from Bigears on Sean's career. Nice to see Sean posting himself last night as well. I would like to thanks Sean Hughes and Co. for comming to Belfast to fight at short notice. Sean is a real nice guy and Belfast Promotions would like to wish him all the best for the future.

Also I'd like to say thanks to all that attended, espicially those that traveled up from Dublin and cork to watch the fights.
A big thank you to all the boxers for making the show possible and I know many of them only got a few days notice due to sickness etc.

A big big thank you to Gary Hyde and No Where To Hyde Promotions, they have worked closely with us over the last few months to organise this show. Acosta provided great sparring for some of the guys in the Team Alio stable. Hopefully belfast Promotions/Team Alio will be able to work with Gary Hyde again and maybe get a few more Irish/Cuban boxers up to bouts in Belfast.
