Munroe World Title Fight?

Post by Autobarn »

“It was important to establish Rendall as the mandatory challenger,” stated promoter Frank Maloney. “We want to go to purse bid, which is why we wanted the mandatory elimination bout so we could force one. We want a chance to bring (Nishioka) to England.”
not seen munroe-maludrottu yet but apparently it was a good fight. so munroe is WBC mandatory? dunne had his go at the titles, won and lost. some dunne fans pointed out that munroe wasn't exactly gunning for the big boys. however, we can see maloney's strategy, go up the top contender route, try and get WBC holder nishioka over to the UK. if maloney doesn't win purse bids, would it still happen though?

it would be disappointing if he didn't get his shot. i'm not the biggest munroe fan, i think he flaps a lot of his shots, whereas i prefer cleaner, more accurate and more controlled punching. however munroe has beaten some top european guys, martinez, maludrottu. even ring mag have him in their top 10.

i don't think he'd beat nishioka, a guy who went 12 rds 4x with the brilliant veeraphol sahaprom (incl 2 tough draws). and who has more recently stopped some very tough mexicans (genaro garcia, ivan hernandez, jhonny gonzalez). but i think munroe would give him a hard fight, i reckon it'd be a superb action fight. and i'd love the chance to catch it on sky.

how likely is it all to work out (i mean to actually get to the fight)? nishioka has traveled before (stopped jhonny gonzalez in mexico, 1 punch KO). perhaps he doesn't generate all that much money himself?

it wasn't a great fight last night but it was entertaining in a way. Munroe was throwing a lot of punches on the inside but he didnt land an awful lot where as Maludrottu was having a lot of success on the inside, Munroe also got caught too often when he was tring to get on the inside and against a bigger puncher it would cause damage. I had Maludrottu winning by one at the end but the general consensus on the forum was a close Munroe victory and a few had it as a draw. Honestly don't think he would have a chance against Nishioka in England or Japan. I can see it happening in England, Nishy went into the lions den against Johny as you said so he wouldn't be afraid to travel. Really haven't been impressed with Munroe his last few fights, some of his punching technique is really poor.

Nishioka by wide UD or late stoppage imo.

here is my opinion on Munroe which i texted a mate last night. i found it unusually concise by my standards:

classic solid but not too talented guy whoc benefits massively from size advantages and southpaw stance. to be fair he's patient and cagy in an -I-respect-him kind of way, but he does little for me as a fighter. I feel I should probably like him more than I do.

interesting. there is also something about him that i'm not keen on, despite the fact that he's strong, solid and has done things the "right way". but i would like to see him in a real scrap, so i am looking forward to seeing this maludrottu fight, and would be interesting in seeing him take on the japanese slugger nishioka.

weightmaking = his punch putput will always be a bit sketchy, IMO.

at some point he will come up against someone who won't be bullied, who can let their hands go a lot (or box and move) and he'll either get schooled or battered IMO.

Bar not looking to win the British title.
Anyway I think it will be very difficult for Maloney to get this fight in England, unless he's willing to take a hit from the promotion and lose money in order to give Rendall a better chance at winning.

Nishioka is a fantastic fighter, he's technically very good, can punch and his handspeed is extremely impressive.
He's all wrong for Munroe and I can see this ending up a bit like Hunter-Molitor.
Nishioka stoppage before the midway point for me.

I would favour Nishioka also. I really rate him. But I think Rendall has earned his top 10 in the world spot. i think he would give the Japanese fighter a hard fight. It is a shame that it might not happen if the Japanese win the purse bids. Munroe is a strong bloke, probably a featherweight really. Whereas Nishioka is up from the bantams. Nishioka might really feel his strength over the first half.

I thought the same would happen against Maludrottu last night but Munroe wasn't able to bully him with his strength, I don't think he knows how to impose himself on smaller fighters without getting caught with silly shots. I always thought Nishioka was more of a 122 pounder even when he was fighting at Bantamweight so I dont think he would have much problem with Munroes size and strength.

I like Rendall and root for him.

But i dont think he's gonna hold a world title for long, thats if he wins one.

Please prove me wrong Rendall and earn yourself a (wheelie) bin full of loot.

that's true. nishioka was a big bantam, and probably weakened himself for years. forgot that maludrottu was a bantam.

I just love Rendall Monroe fights, he has such a massive following. A real working class hero and a great lad. He seems to love his job on the bins but I hope he can make enough money soon to give up his day job and do boxing full time. His fitness, stamina and chin are first rate and with a few improvements he can go all the way. He has the heart of a lion, and total belief in his abilities as a fighter. He is underrated, doesnt get the mentions or credit he deserves and that is a real pity. For me he is one of our best fighters and I would love to see him win a world title and become a big name.

I have seen a couple of fights of his and love his life story, which is not that uncommon with most professional boxers, i believe he can compete well even at the world championship level, he has heart and strength. where he lacks is in the power department this is due to not giving himself the room to get his shots of sometimes, in other words he smothers his shots and at times he is too flat footed and doesn't turn into his shots limiting his power.

Thanks mate. Sounds like he is a happy man enjoying both his day job and his boxing. With good employers too, sounds like he has it made. Tell him Waylon (the old man of Boxrec) wishes him a fantastic future.

I hope the bookies underate Nishioka like they did for his fight with Gonzalez. He was 12/5 to win that and I made £40 and get this, I'd enevr even seen him fight. Couldnt pick him out of a lineup. Infact, I'd neevr heard of him. I just looked at his record and knew the bookies had made a mistake

Since he won I have looked at him a couple of times on youtube and I think Munroe is getting iced. He was ctahcing some nice hooks off of maladrutto and with Toshiaka you wont get away with giving him free shots

Some good analysis here. Amazingly, despite some quite differing fews, I think alot of the posters are correct.

He has impressive strength and stamina and looks to have a good chin. What I liked about him last week was his coolness under pressure. I thought in the fifth it was not only going to be a tough fight, but I could only see one winner (Maladrottu) and I thought the Italian was going to force a stoppage. It was a bad round for Munroe, he took some very clean shots, got cut and just looked like he was being systematically broken down. However, in the corner after Munroe was talking to his corner and his corner were not getting worked up.

I disagree with the poster who thought the fight last week was bad. I really enjoyed for, it might not have had the drama of Rhodes vs Moore - but for me, its skill level was better and it ebbed and flowed just as much. Both fighters threw close to 1000 punches, so how can that be a dull fight, I don't know.
