Richie Davies v Mickey Vann

Post by jonny »

What do you guys think, for me the top two refs in Britain and maybe the World but I've got to go for Davies hes got the old fashioned "growl" which seems to command the respect of the boxers and does'nt seem to play to the cameras like Vann. But it must be said if it was down to fitness and moves Vann would be streets ahead..

I agree, Richie Davies is the boss.

Talking of referees, I reckon that Ian 'I am the referee' John Lewis has improved alot recently...and looks like being a good one for the future.

What I remember of him early on in his career, he wasn't always great on the timing of his stoppages....but recently he's been spot on and is starting to get some good fights. It's always good to see ex-fighters doing well as referees.

Of the ones coming through I think Marcus McDonald and Howard Foster are doing well, not sure on Mark Green though.

He's young too, which is good, most of our high profile refs are getting on a bit.

Referees have a very very hard job to do, I think they don't get enough credit. It's a HUGE responsibility looking after two fighters and protecting them from possible disability or even death, and also trying to make sure the bout is fair.
