Won the ABAs in '99, and maybe again, I can't remember.Close friend of Audley Harrison from what I've seen. They were club-mates at Repton ABC and I think Audley may have used him as a sparring partner, both for the Olympics and as a pro.

I've heard that Jacobs could have been a good fighter if he had applied himself more.

yes, he was silver medallist at the worlds in 1993 i think. but is fighting way too heavy. he should be cruiser weight. he was 81kg amateur.

incidentally he beat a certain A Tarver (USA) on the way to his silver medal

Despite his ABA wins, I could never get that excited about Young. He packs a fair wallop, but I thought he lost both his London ABA final clashes to Ian Lewinson. He got the nod on both occasions.

Lost to a strong Welshman in the four nations.

Sorry to say , but I don't think he'll go too much further than a Southern Area title (in real terms).

Watched Billy Bessey almost take his head off in the ABA finals in Barnsley circa 1998. He looks a fair boxer. Maybe him and Billy can do it again without the old vest and headguard in the future?

Didn't he win 2004 ABAs? If it's the same man, I don't rate him one bit.

I think you are right, from what I recall I ws non to impressed with him either.

Wasn't he involved in an argument with Herbie Hide on a Harrison bill which caused a minor riot.

Yes, apparently (from what I've heard from people who have been in his company...or as near as they would wish) he is mouthy and unpleasant. I'm sure it's the lad who won the super-heavys. Kid's legs and not a particularly good boxer. Decent hand speed though...no movement to speak of. Christ knows how he beat Tarver.

"Lewison lost to james Zikic who's main game is MMA"

Knockout, Yes, Repton's Zikic got the DECISION over Lewinson in the London ABA final's , but that was even worse than the losses Ian suffered to Young in my opinion.

He beat James hands down by my reckoning and the crowd let out a collective gasp when the result was announced.
