Ask me Question (if u want) Tony Jeffries

Post by jaffa1 »

I was at the Boxing in Nottingham on Friday night after the boxing back in the hotel i was talking to two boxing writers Steve Lilis & Danny Flexen

we where talking about the BoxRec Forum and how i have some great support on here and a bit stick too,

they mentioned me doing this to give you a chance to ask me questions , i told them i was'nt sure about it and didnt think anyone would have anything to ask me

but i will give it a go , so if you have anything you want to ask me i'll try and answer them the best i can

cheers

Hi mate, welcome aboard! :TU: I saw you sitting ringside but I was busy monitoring Munroe's corner.

Here's a quick question for you. Other than yourself who do you think is the best British prospect at Light Heavyweight (or Super Middleweight), and who do you think will be your toughest challenge at domestic level?

Alright Tony

Can you make 168lbs comfortably, and will you box at Super Middle? or are you going to be a Light Heavyweight?

Hey nice to see you on here Tony :)

First of all after the sad death of Darren Sutherland do you think pro boxers are being put under too much pressure?

and on a light note what kind of music are you in to?

When you were made full screw (corporal) - were you annoyed when the army (or your CO) wanted you to
give up boxing? (thats what I read somewhere anyway, Boxing News if I remember rightly) Why would they do that? Wasn't it in the army's best interest for you to keep winning ABAs and international competitions?

Another question - what did you have for your tea last night? :TU:

personally I don't see why anyone would want to be banding the compliments around about certain boxers in their own weight categories and sayingwho they "rate" when they could very well end up fighting them. I think that kind of stuff is best kept to himself for now.

how many ABAs did you enter Tone, what was your best placing, and what is your record as an Am. Cheers and good luck :TU:

There are a lot of some real talented young super middles about the British scene at the moment. A lot like the 90`s when Delaney, Calzaghe, Woodhall, Reid, Starie and Francis all threatened big things.

Do you see the new situation that all promoters in this country now find themselves in - struggling for TV - making a difference and levelling the field of opportunity for all you guys?

Would you consider a move over seas if the opportunities were becoming unavailable in this country. Would you choose the USA or Germany which now seems to do very well for foreign guys?

mrrocco wrote: Second question is bit more general - do you prefer a Big Mac or quarter pounder with cheese? I go back and forth and am never sure......

You want a double cheeseburger. Take off the pickles, spot on.

Whenever I have one I always think of the woman's voice on Masterchef when she says...blah blah blah Michelin Stars blah blah...."cooking doesn't get any better than this!"........Well it does, and it's a Macdonalds double cheeseburger!

A burger is allright but what you need is a 'lomito'

If you are ever in Peru - go to Bembos - far better than Maccies or BK! :TU:

FTM Press I know you's take this personally but I am sure this poster is not impying that he was put under more pressure than any other top prospect!
I think everyone has to be aware he suffered from mental illness and from my personal experience of it can be hard to diagnose. The person needs to realise that their is something wrong with them and get help!
From my own point of view their is not enough awareness!!! It should be part of secondary school education and try to rid of the stigma!

thanks everyone for the questions,

The Law ,

What a fight that was from Rendal i really enjoyed it and over the moon with him getting the win

i think the other british prospects are obvious ones Gorge Groves , Degale but theres more too like travis Dickenson, Kenny Anderson am sure there will be plenty more coming through too,

as for toughest challenge out of the ones i mentioned its still to early to tell i think , but im sure they all will be a tough

cheers pal

i can make super middle weight mate 12 stone , for my 1st fight i came in at 12.1.5 st and had breakfast the morning of the weigh in , i dieted for 8 weeks and done eveything right , i felt strong so i suppose i can do it when i have to ,

as an amateur i boxed at light heavy which was 12.10st and i did that very comfortably

thanks

the pressure fighting for a medal in the Olympics and fighting to qualify for the olympics was the biggest pressure i'v been under because i worked for so so long trying to qualify and medal at the games just so scared of failing

as a pro there still is pressure because it seems the whole boxing world is watching the olympians and comparing and criticizing if we make a mistake, so there is pressure but nothing im not used to,

i love music im into all sorts from hiphop to electro house , love a bit of marvin gaye too to get me into to the sexual heeling mood haha

me James spoke even before the Olympics saying that if we medaled and turned pro it could be possible for us to fight each other, so if it happens, it happens it will be down the road and with the wadges he's on it will be a big money fight for me too :D

never sparred with george groves , been on a few training camps with him and to a tournament in poland with him , he's a nice lad

I don't think he's referring to you, Frank, but that the fans held him in high regard.
