kessler vs ward spoiler

Post by boxerbob »

andre ward looked a million dollars tonight , he totally dominated a good world champion in kessler.

i could only give kessler 1 round

ward is certainly for real and i think ward and abraham arenow the favs to win the super 6

there is no doubt now , ward is a big star in boxing

ps: if i was froch i would be demanding his fight with kessler is in the uk , he has the belt and that should give him the barganing rights for that fight.

how much has kessler left , think froch takes him now

kessler said something interesting there in his interview...he said he needs to look at the fight to see if he still has it.

is kessler thinking about retireing??? or is he doubting his ability at this stage of his career??

i think that was probably his emotions talking rather than his head.. He's super pissed as he thinks those headbutts were intentional.

some them did look dodgy on the replays too..

He has had health problems, relating to his back and his hands. The problem is that he has a lack of mobility due to his back problems. Adding to that, he is in the terrible habit of walking forwards and backwards in straight lines, which he touched on in the interview. He would have to break that habit to beat movers like Ward and Dirrell and it's very hard to break at this stage in his career.

I don't want to take too much away from Ward, but Kessler is the perfect advert for why fighters need to stay active and fighting solid opposition. Everything about Kesslers career has been poor since the Calzaghe loss. He looked out of his depth against Ward, who is far from the finished article.

I picked Ward to give Kessler trouble and have always thought he was a decent talent, but I have to say that was not the Kessler of 2-3 years ago.... I still fancy Kessler to do a job on Froch and still think there's a few twists and turns left in the super six. I like Ward, but he's got a long way to go before he wins this thing. He's certainly going in the right direction though.

Ok'ish performance by Ward. Nothing 'amazing' or 'outstanding'. He was just to fast and nimble, not to mention rough with his head work, ducking low then lunging up.

I agree completely.

Kessler really let himself down by not correcting the mistakes that led to his loss against Calzaghe -- lack of adaptability, moving forwards and backwards in straight lines and being unable to deal (defensively) with angles.

I don't know if you've seen the Edison Miranda fight, but Ward was just the same in that, though more cautious of Miranda's power. I'm not surprised by Ward in the slightest, but just really sorry that Kessler showed very little tonight.

a wee side thought...

what does this do to calzages win over kessler?? , does this show that kessler was no more than a decent champion who was overated and 1 dimensional

if it is , then who is calzages best win against???? and did he ever beat anyone great??? cause mnay people thought kessler was a great fighter

good step up from ward, but a more compact fighter can beat him.

calzaghe beat kessler in a unification so let's stop whining already: there was no one else we wanted calzaghe to fight more at the time, was there?

is it me, or are abraham and ward showtime's favorites, both getting their opening bouts at home vs someone perhaps they have the right style for?

I wasn't overly impressed with Ward, I was more disappointed in Kessler. There were so many opportunities to counter Ward who was wide open at times but Kessler just didn't look like he had any "snap" in his punches and his timing was way off. Don't get me wrong, fair play to Ward as he won the fight clearly but I just think the result flattered him as Kessler didn't look right in there.

I think the person who said there is going to be lots of twists and turns in this tournament is correct, I think Direll really could be the dark horse here as he could certainly match Ward for speed and with the confidence gained from the Froch fight......

OK , guy's let's stop slagging kessler off and give
ward credit, he didn't just beat kessler, who by the way
most people were picking not just to beat ward but win the
whole thing, he outclassed him and beat him more easily than
calzaghe did, stop being American haters.

think kessler travels badly. he looked badly off vs mundine and obviouisly lost to calzaghe.

to be honest, if mundine had a bit of desire at that time, mundine should have been able to do similar.

credit to ward, stepped well up in class, beat a good champ. i think kessler was the right style for him. i'm not going to go OTT and pick ward to win the whole thing, though. because there will be styles that ward doesn't like, also.

reckon ward is superior to dirrell. dirrell may be faster but ward is the better boxer and more confident in his ability. ward negated his foe, whereas dirrell seemed to throw it all away - delibrately - in an immature, weird, performance.

I thought Ward's punches looked pretty lightweight.

I was impressed with his skill level and the way he fought like a winner.

I was not impressed by this crouching tiger, hidden headbutt and clinch approach though.

Those lightweight punches sure did a good
job of backing kessler up and cutting him under the right eye.?

ward was all wrong for kessler.

ward could be a light heavy in the near future.

i bet he would have a much tougher fight vs erdei, a more mobile and agile fighter. erdei doesn't have the respect that kessler gets (deservedly), but he would be able to do far more v ward.

What a terrific fight from Andre Ward, massive pressure there, and he stepped right up no problem at all. Kessler looked flat, yes, but that was all down to Ward's movement and speed I thought, very defensively savvy too.
He's now the big favorite for this tournament. There's still a question over his chin, as Kessler never really caught him ( and haven't seen it but, but doubt Miranda caught him clean either, as surely his chin's not THAT good ) but the skills he showed there should even get him by Abrahams.
Good win for the tournament, as it needed an American win to keep up the global interest angle, and TV money of course. Kessler showed a warrior's heart, he'll come back into this tournament in a big way.

And he looked to be punching very hard there, fast and full weight behind them, just that Kessler has a Joe Calzage type chin.

One thing that really stands out in this `super6` is that none of the 6guys look anything really special.
Abraham looks too economical. Taylor spoilt goods. Dirrel too nervous. Froch one dimensional. kessler limited. Ward bit better than capable.

Not a great advert so far.

Ward did an impressive job on Kessler, but i'm not entirely sold on him. He's definately the favourite alongside Abraham now, but i think Abraham will be too much for him if they are to meet in the final, and thats looking a big possibility now.

Ward is set to fight Taylor next. Most expected Taylor to give it up after his KO loss to Abraham, but now that Ward has the title, i reckon Taylor might just take the fight. And if he does, i'm giving him a chance to upset Ward. Is Jermain Taylor damaged goods though, thats the question?

Kessler has Froch next, and i'm tipping Kessler for victory, though its not as cut and dried as i thought it was before Kessler/Ward.
