Carl Webb take 2

Post by ryan711 »

From The Daily Telegraph
HE HAS talked the talk and now Carl Webb will walk the walk when he makes his professional boxing debut next month.

Webb, one of the most feared men in the NRL, has landed a fight on a Foxtel promotion and will jump in the ring at the University of NSW Roundhouse on December 11.

The 114kg Cowboy has been training under the watchful eye of former Australian champion Billy Johnston, now the Cowboys' head fitness man.

Webb is still searching for an opponent but we hear the man Sonny Bill Williams knocked out is keen to have a crack at the former Kangaroo. Gary Gurr lasted just over three minutes against Williams and we are told the man nicknamed the "baboon" may have an even shorter night against Webb. The Cowboys hardman was an amateur boxing champion and is rated by many experts as the rugby league player most likely to have a career with the gloves.

St. Claire retires!
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Former IBF world 130 pound champion Gairy St Clair (41-10-2, 18 KOs) contacted Fightnews today to advise he has officially retired as a boxer. He will continue to stay in boxing as a trainer. “I had a very good career boxed several world champions and was world champion in 2006 after beating Cassius Baloyi in South Africa,” said St. Claire. “Other world champions I boxed were Vivian Harris who later became world 140 pound champion. I also boxed the great Diego Corrales in 1998 losing a twelve round decision.” St Claire was stopped for the first time in his career recently by hard punching IBF#14 Jackson Asiku in nine rounds. In 2008 he had taken the much bigger Amir Khan twelve rounds in London, England.

Some of these rugby blokes don't have much heart do they, they like the safe fights

i don't care about webb vs a bloke off the street called baboon

they like to fight guys of the street or 50 year olds

Frankly the powers that be in aussie boxing are dickheads for letting it happen

So.. Carl Webb should fight Vatali Klitschko in his debut fight then to prove he has heart?

I feel ya, no walkover fighters for the footy boys, unlike Hoppa and Solo, but who do you have in mind?

Yeah because thefooty blokes are the only ones who have a few soft touches first up

If you want to be serious mate you need to look a lot wider than just the footy blokes.

When did Billy Johnstone win the Australian title? I know he was Queensland middleweight champ, but I am pretty sure he did not win a national title.

Billy could have won Australian Amateur title but fell just short in the pros. Watched Webb fight at Dalby when he was a 15yo kid. He beat a 22yo that night as there we not many kids to fight at that weight. Dont expect too much from him but he will come to fight.
