dazzo williams vs john simpson, any good ?

Post by Spreadking »

Should I get this fight from early November ? The close decision has me wondering whether it was good or not ? Help me out. I went right past me when it happened.

thanks

A fight that epitomised everything I hate about hometown decisions - and Sky coverage of them. The fight itself is a good fight. There's little clinching and good quality workrate from both. Keep in mind Simpson was a largely unknown and untested quantity going into this fight. He had been on Sky once before, against Freddy Janes on the Williams - Rutherford undercard, IIRC. He looked impressive then, showing signs of potential, but I'd also have said he'd been too green (like his shorts) for a British Title shot.

Well, that shot happened and he rose to the challenge in front of a partisan crowd. BBBoC steward and Sky analyst, Nicky Piper, predictably used the old umbrella excuse of fights being 'subjective to the referee' while having a slight grin on his face. And no wonder, it's always the same story: Darke &c criticise the verdict, Dempsey follows up and comes on strong, whatever expert is on uses the same tired excuses. It's all plastic; they're just going through the motions.
