Is it true that a few years ago Boxing writer Hugh McIlvanney punched fellow Boxing writer Norman Mailer?

Even if he did, Mailer will make a few quid out of it. Probably turn it into a 50000 word essay.

Dunno about that but Hughie McIlviolence is well known for rucks. He had a fight in the press seats with Mike Marley during the Lewis v Tucker fight. Marley was King's PR man at the time

Yes, he's a man who is fond of his scotch I believe, he's supposed to have initiated a fight with an ex-boxer once at a dinner table who smacked him one and then told him to leave it.

I also heard that once whilst while having a drink at some sort of Boxers dinner he offrered to fight the bloke sat next to him, a certain Henry Cooper. Hugh has since said that luckily for him Copper was too nice a bloke and declined the offer.
