Matt Skelton

Post by ILikeBeer »

Considering his age, how far does everybody think Matt Skelton can go? Will he win a serious world title? Or will he just make European champion?

Or is British and Commonwealth heavyweight chaampion as far as he will go?

Klitschko - No.

Kitschko KO 3

Ruiz - would play into Ruiz's style, IMO. If he did somehow manage to get his punches in, then he's in with a chance. But I think Ruiz may stop him - in yet another woefully hideous heavyweight fight.

Ruiz TKO 8

Byrd - too cute, if he can school the likes of Tua he can keep off Skelton, IMO. I know his latest performances have been shaky at the least, so you'd need to take that factor into account. I can't because I have not been able to bring myself to watch the recent heavyweight fights (apart from Danny Williams' painful performance against Klitschko)

Byrd UD 12

Brewster - who the hell would you say didn't have a chance against Brewster? It's a race to who gets to him first. Utter shite.

A fight against Fraudley Harrison would be more appropriate for Skelton. I've thought for a while that he could beat him. Whatever, both of them need each other if they want to progress. There will always be 'what if's' if Fraudley - as it looks - fades away into obscurity.

A fight with Danny Williams would be good for Skelton in the short term, bad in the long term. I think he could beat Williams by TKO 9 if the fight were to happen before March. If it happened in the summer against a rejuvinated Williams then it's a 65-35 fight in favour of Williams, IMO.

I haven't seen enough of the German heavyweights currently swapping the Euro title. But a Euro title is far from a formality for Skelton.

BTW, are you the poster formerlly known as Hurricane/Guest/etc?

Heres Matt Skeltons' record from fighting in K1, wins 10 lost 7.

Not to sure how much this means in boxing terms, but i see he lost a couple by KO and it was a punch that did the damage.
I'm not convinced by Matt's last 2 fights, Sprott seemed to lose heart, and he didn't look good against Long. mind you who does.

I would still pick Danny Williams to beat him, i'd go for a mid round stoppage. I'm sure it would be a good fight though.

One of the KO losses was jrome le boner though, one of the best K1 fighters around, also, although a punch ended the contest the record dosent show the culmative punishment taken before the KO.

I think SKelton can challenge for the euro title wether he can win it is another story. There is plenty for him to deal with domestically though, Williams could be a possibility, Harrison would be doubtful although interesting as would a scrap with Hide.

yeah Jrome Le Boner is a very good K1 fighter, I don't usually like watching other contact sports that much, but i'm quite getting into the K1 scene. you get some good entertaining fights, and you can see that it takes alot of training to be the champion, can't think of any boxers that have made that much of an impact when they switched to K1.

Skelton would have been in some tough scraps in K1, so that might make a difference when a fight isn't going his way, he had a couple of shaky moments against an Aussie in defense of his commonwelth crown but came through in the end.

I do like Skelton, and from what i've seen he would go in with anyone in the world, he knows that he hasn't got that long to make an impact.
I would pick him to win the Euro crown , i think he would wear down Luan Krasniqi.

As far as the world scene, i'd pick Klitschko by stoppage RSF 5, Byrd by decision, Ruiz by Ko 8.

I think against Brewster he would have a chance, he's definetly the weakest one at the top, and he might be tempted to make a voluntary defense against Skelton.
If Matt was at the top of his game, i could see him stopping Brewster late on.

I think Williams career peaked when he beat Tyson. I say Skelton beats him.

It's obviously possible seeing as Williams sleepwalked to a loss over sprott, but I don't think so.

If they fought next and Williams comes in larded up then I think Skelton wins. If he just plods around the ring Skelton will smash him up.
