Using your analogy, who are the big scalps on Small's resume ?
Hall being the biggest, of course- but given his record, I'd say he was in a credible position to challenge for the British title- which he won, of course, and can build from there.

What I'm getting at, is that a victory over Hall does not catapult him into a mandatory position for the EBU title.
There are challengers at British level he can sort out before talking about a fight with Rhodes.
Here's one for you - why not challenge Pryce first and avenge his defeat ?
I'll tell you why, because the attendance would be about 95 - 90 of whom would be from the Valleys.
Which Promotor would invest in that ?
Small has yet to headline his own show.
Boxing is a business not just a sport.

Does Rhodes HAVE to fight Small? Absolutly not- I don't think anyone is challenging that.

The way I say it, Rhodes and Small were due to fight in March- and one of them pulled out.

Since then, both have had very good wins.

I doubt they will fight, business is business and all that ..

Lets hope, though, Rhodes first defence of the EBU title is against someone a bit more credible than the guy Moore defended it against - http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

I only say that because, as a fan of the sport, I like to see interesting match ups.

i don't understand why small doesn't actually expect an offer from a promoter. he said he recieved 3 offers from promoters on buncey's boxing hour about a month ago. he said he was going to announce it that week. but buncey got him back on the show the other week and nothing was said about it. i understand he is still managed by wazza? am i right?

Cancleaux was made mandatory just a few days after the Moore Rhodes fight.
He has a fight in Montreal on 5th December at Middle but I didn't think anything was at stake.
As far as I know he still intends to fight at LM.
Initially purse bids were due by 18th November but they've been put back as Leforge rightly points out.
A lot depends on what happens in that fight, I suppose - cut or anything could happen.
The EBU are ok with voluntary defences provided the opponent comes up to scratch - which in their book is ranked 1 to 15.
Like I said earlier much going on at the moment but I'm sure everything will be resolved before 2009 is out.
Mr Boxing - of course he will defend his title if a World Title opportunity doesn't present itself in the short to mid term - that's obvious.
He has his WBC no 3 ranking now, and above him is the Champ Martinez - fighting at Middle against Williams.
If he wins he may stay up there ?
No 1 is Chavez who stunk the joint out at Middle on the Pacman show. Rumour is he may drop right down to Welter ?
No 2 is Cintron. I understand he is also considering a jump up to Middle.
So as you can see a lot in the melting pot.

Small is one of my favourites. He's shaping up nicely to be the next Chris Eubank. A definite pay-per-view attraction of the future if he gets the fights he needs.

I have a feeling he might end up sparked by his opponent (who shouldn't really have been challenging for the title anyway) and thats the end of the pantomine.

danieljenkins wrote:Anthony Small is a very confident man, its not that he's showing disrespect its that he believes in himself so much...and thats not such a bad thing. And you did admit he is a good fighter. Would you class Ali or Naz wankers, pricks and say that they spoke down to everyone and showed no respect when they showed their confidence? And Floyd Mayweather you mentioned, would you say the same about him? I would say he acts no different. Smalls a fighter with confidence and whether he's at the level of fighters who've had and acted in the same confidence or not its working for him as seen in his recent performances, its helping him believe in himself which is an assit to any fighter and if Rhodes feels he can beat Small I'm sure Small is hoping he is annoying Rhodes enough to accept the fight.

at least naz and ali were world class fighters this bloke got it all to prove but if u listen to him hes achieved it all allready. and he do talk down to people on facebook he was giving bradley pyrce stick for no reason and this is a man who smoked his boots !! if he think hes the man get in there with paul williams lol[/quote]
 Would you think that he might actually be trying to pull pryce into a rematch? Yes Naz and Ali were world class fighters ...But didn't they talk and at up before they proved themselves?! Of course they did, thats what helped them get the publicity they got, when both Ali and Naz was on the way up talking and acting like they did they had plenty of haters...But it got them publicity, got them known not just for their ability but for their attitude which pulled an interest to non boxing fans which got them even more known, and those that couldn't understand what Naz or Ali were doing wanted to see them get beat. It seems to be forgotten that when Ali and Naz were fighting they wasn't very liked, its only after they retired or towards the end of their careers alot of the haters lightend up and saw the acts for what it was. And if you read my post correctly (which strangely now says qouted by you), you will see that I said Whether he is at Ali's, Naz's etc fighters level or NOT :o
