needs to stop expecting to win and concentrate on the business of going about it!....looks too casual often, looks at the opponent with contempt as though he can do what he wants, when he wants to do it. Not everybody is willing to go in there and accept the role of punchbag.

although I'm sure they can find suitable "opponents" for this role for his next 10 fights or so...

He looked very poor 1st round hitting and moving getting in and out but couldnt deal with his opponant's strenght and cutting off of the ring, I thought he would get a draw as he was the home fighter but glad he never as it will either make or break him :box:

not as good as the guy in Benn's corner after the first round in which Mcclellan knocked him clean out the ring...

"He's f*cked Nigel! He's f*cked!"....

Ingle makes me laugh, one of these days he'll get so excited he'll actually go and KO the opponent himself......"You've got to do this, "RIGHT HAND, LEFT HOOK, BANG!!"

Hopefuly now they can tuck him away, unseen, and let him do his thing rather than sticking him in front of the camera for a pre fight interview (pre fight ffs - how many fighters get pre fight interviews) in his last fight, then even showing him this time. Let him get on with it.

Hoping this will be the kick up the backside everyone involved needs.

Steve's got the talent but his performances are well below par. There's gonna have to be a re-evaluation of his training and hopefully given time away from the spotlight this very promising lad can re-discover the form that's made him such a touted prospect.

That really wasn't the real Steve Barnes in there on Sat night, trust me

Ben Kinglsey says in Lucky number slevin

"The first time someone tells you you're a horse you call them a moron. The second time they tell you you're a horse you slap them. If someone tells you for a third time you're a horse, well, its time to go and buy a saddle"

Genuinely hope that is the case. I'd only heard good things about him prior to him turning pro and you can't help but feel there's just too much pressure being heaped on young shoulders. He really needs to be taken out of the limelight completely and get back to basics.

I saw Bailey up at Newmarket a few weeks ago....he was well organised and disciplined. His record is slightly misleading.

Barnes needs to wear a cup and needs taking back two steps.

To my mind, he should have been pulled out after 3.

He was taking full blown shots frequently, had gassed out totally, had nothing in his arms and legs and was clearly out of it in terms of morale - and he's a baby.

Perhaps I'm getting to old and fatherly about this young nipper.s

Well, there is certainly a case to be made that he won the last round - I thought he did.

Going off the ref's scorcard (Baily 39 Barnes 38) the ref either gave round 4 to Barnes or scored it as a draw ( rounds 2 and 3 were without qustion Baily's rounds).

The fact he didn't lose the last round proves (to me) that it would have been a bad decision to pull him out after 3.

Lovelly in hindsight isnt it.

He could've been badly sparked in the last round, in which case everyone would be saying he should've been pulled out. I agree with david in that he was taking too many clean shots, a more dangeous scenario than actually going down.

I disagree- he certainly lost the round, but the ammount of shots he was taking didn't warrant a stoppage.

His corner, after all, are a very experienced corner and would know to pull him if they felt it was the best thing to do.

I feel that had he been pulled out, people would have been saying "far too soon" etc, which would have taken away from his victory somewhat.

The Kid is only 18 he has time to learn ,better now than 20 fights down the line after being fed a steady diet of Journey men then coming up short when it really matters.

Another young Pro who looked like he was going to make some noise in the paid ranks Trevor "Wrecking" Crewe was easily beaten over 4 rounds by Journey man Manocha Salari at Colne on Sunaday afternoon.

Cheers for that mate as I'd missed that result completely. I'd asked elsewhere on the forum a few weeks ago what was happening with Crewe as I'd liked what I'd seen - powerful, compact and explosive, so this result is genuinely shocking.
Anyone have any more details?
