Amir Khan has told Juan Manuel Marquez: Forget about fighting Ricky Hatton next year and face me instead.

Talks have taken place about a Hatton comeback against the Mexican next summer.

However, Khan (pictured), who makes the first defence of his WBA light-welterweight title against Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle next Saturday, wants to take on Marquez as he aims to fulfil his boyhood dream of fighting in America.

Khan, 22, said: "He is made for my style and, if I beat him, people will start knowing who Amir Khan is in the United States.

"It'd be tough for Ricky to come straight back to fight Marquez, but good luck to him."

Khan has spent much of the last 18 months training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

He said: "I don't want to go to fight in America too late. Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton left it a bit late.

"I want to follow in Manny Pacquiao's footsteps."

nothing wrong with khan v marquez. early this year it looked a million miles away, with marquez scintillating in a war with juan diaz. and khan was yet to reestablish himself from the prescott defeat.

interesting aggressive approach from khan, post-warren. he obviously wants the big money, roach has got him to believe in, and be realistic regarding, his abilities. and being around the great pacquiao has clearly been a positive influence.

good risk-reward for khan, with marquez eager to blow up himself for the big paydays. at this point does khan's name mean enough at the box office to pull in someone like marquez? i prefer khan-marquez to hatton-marquez as there's at least a title to fight for (khan's WBA 140). but khan doesn't sell as many PPVs as hatton.

how about hatton-khan? it couldn't happen before as hatton wouldn't deal with warren. or how about both, 2 lucrative bouts for khan? obviously he has to get in there, before they fight each other. or maybe he can fight the winner...

It's not really a 'Warren mistake' - if you're 'supposedly' that good, you would expect to win any fight - even if you know next to nothing about the other fighter.
