is hopkins - eastman actually happening?

think about it

* we havent seen any press conf on the fight.
* the fight isnt on HBO boxing site
* hennessy site doesnt mention the fight.
*havent seen any interviews?
*no tv coverage on the fight

so is it happening?

The fight fans boxing schedule on maxboxing is a little "hazy" on it as it says venue TBA and no mention of the undercard.

This schedule from USATODAY.com does show the undercard (and a cracking one it appears to be). Also shows the TV company and it looks like the Garden might be hosting it. However, surely the WBO title is on the line aswell.

Saturday, February 19 - at New York (HBO) - 12 rounds, WBA, WBC
and IBF middleweight titles: Bernard Hopkins (45-2-1, 32 KOs) vs.
Howard Eastman (40-1, 34 KOs); 12 rounds, WBA welterweight title:

think you got that mixed up with a different card stu. all thoese are don king fighters when as hopkins is with oscar company? plus 12 rounds, IBF cruiserweight title: Kelvin Davis vs. O'Neil Bell is happening on the spinks c- judah card.

I'm just quoting from the site. I usually stick to the fight fans schedule on Maxboxing. I did think it sounded odd.

It's set for the staples centre tentatively. As far as I know it's on, but contracts haven't actually been signed yet. I believe Hennessy don't want to make any announcement until the ink is dry on the contract.

No pun intended, Freiheit, but Damn. I was actually looking forward to that one. There is suggestions the Thomas is shot, but he is still undefeated and looked okay on the Tyson vs Neilson undercard. I don't think either are superstars but a good 50:50 fight.

Whats the reasoning.

Its Don King that has postponed it, so I have no idea. Rivera and King arent excactly the best of friends after a couple of Rivera pull outs. My he want Rivera to get stripped and the loser of Judah vs Spinks to fight Damgaard?

Rivera has done things the hard way and has had a tough life from what i read about him...he deserves a break so let's hope it all gets resolved.

I echo Real Deal's sentiments though on the Eastman-Hopkins fiasco...i dont think it is on as yet.

Likewise Steve. I really hope Eastman gets this shot though...it's just that with the fight supposedly only five weeks or so away...you would really expect the PR machine to be cranking up by this point.

Eastman is the mandatory, purse bids are done and dusted (four million dollars courtesy of Golden Boy Promotions), Hopkins wants desperately to make it 20 defences (he's on 19) and has signed a four-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions (of which Eastman will be the first).

his worst performances have come against defensive fighters, and Howard can be very evasive at his best. the trouble is though, if Hopkins plays the counterpunching game on Eastman, I can well see Eastman getting frustrated, like he did against Tatevosyan, only worse.

fornicating good news though, two genuine world title attempts against two top 5 p4p fighters.

Happy days....Warren has exceeded most people's expectations, and Hennessy has done a bloody good job, thought Howard was going to be let out in the cold for ever.

Hennassy would be wise to put some of his other talent on the undercard to give them american exposiour. Froch would be the favorate cos the yanks would like his style maybe even Hide.

froch would go down well, he's a bit of a showboater and the American crowds often like a bit of fancy dan shit. Eastman got a great reception when he fought joppy every time he dropped his hands and did his little shuffles.

Iv always thought that Froch would be popular in the states he is the right kind of fighter for them and he is arregant enough. I hope hennassy is shrewd enough to fight for that one cos it would do his stable no end of good and give froch a real profile.

The more reliable, Fight Fans schedule over on Maxboxing are saying the Riveria vs Damngaurd is now on the 12th March (Golota vs Brewester bill). Its calling it a new (just been added) fight and I know the schedule is updated regularly. Is it back on?

According to Hennessy site they are trying to get Froch on the Hopkins -Eastman undercard.

They have also said that they are making every effort to get the fight shown on national Tv.

Lets hope so.
