4 am start....

Post by Wales »

does anyone know of a more riddiculous time a boxing match has started?? Just goes to show how much the money in the game matters, this fight could come down to who trains and adapts to the time properly.

Half the people in the crowd will be so shit-faced they won't even remember the fight next morning.

Not the first time - Ali / Foreman took place around 4am in Zaire. Again, this was mainly to satisfy overseas TV.

Anyway, Showtime TV are probably putting up most of the cash for the Tszyu fight, so it's their call on the start time.

WHat about the rule that fights can't start after midnight? Is that just for amateur shows?

Real shame, this. They could have had one of the biggest gates in Britain for thirty years and instead it's going to be watched by a small bunch of blokes who are out of their heads.

I think they may be able to tempt people to travel for this one from a fair way around.

I'll be making the trip to Manchester for it.

I think that is a rediculous rule (the Midnight one - which I believe is just for Amateurs). Aslong as the fighter has prepared for a late start then infact it should be encourage. Its alot colder at night and therefore the fighters would become less dehydrated.

I think it'll still be a sell out. All those Hatton fans will not want to miss the Big One after a 5 year build up.
Gates will open around midnight - put some decent fights on the undercard, plus televise some classics on the big screens, to keep everyone in the mood - occasional shot of Hatton and co arriving and getting ready in dressing room etc - the time will fly by.

Yeah, It would be good if they could do it at a football ground, I reckon they could get a huge crowd at Man City's ground.

What about transport though, there's going to be problems for people getting home, it's bad enough at 11.00 pm.

car parking should be ok at that time I assume, perhaps at a distance from the site...and I'd have thought local bus services will do a park & ride or something if it's thousands of people?

Warren quoted on Sky website saying something like "I'm putting up the money, so I'll decide what time it's on. I certainly won't be told by them (Tszyu's camp)"

I think it should be on at 4PM so I can get pissed afterwards.

Warrens nose has been put well out of joint by this. I'd almost find it amusing if I thought it wasnt going to scupper the fight. Will Warren now let his big ego get in the way of the fight happening?

Yeah he seems to be going into a real sulk over this.....but the whole 4am start was, I believe, first metioned by FW himself wasn't it?
The Tszyu camp were asking a few weeks ago, why should we fight in the UK at 4am?

Lets hope we get the fight AND get to see Warren completely embarass himself with his hypocrisy and general sulking.

It was first mentioned by showtime who demanded the fight be staged at that time to accomodate their audience if memory serves correctly.
