Re: What If?
jones would of won like he did in the rematch
Re: What If?
He'd have lost. No Futch in the opposite corner for the rematch.

How would he have lost? He got DQ'd for hitting Griffin on the canvas. The fight would have been over shortly or Roy would have won a clear decision.
Re: What If?
Roy Jones was totally confused in that fight.

Re: What If?
He was definitely confused early, Griffin was the one confused as to what day it was at the end of the fight.
Re: What If?
i had roy down a point going into the 9th and final round. he had dropped griffin earlier in the fight and griffin was hurt when he went down for the final time. if roy doesn't get dq'ed, the end was near for griffin. i personally think roy getting dq'ed was a good thing for his career. it pissed him off and made him more focused. the rematch was just brutal.

Yeah a lot of people (including myself) forget how good Griffin was in the 1st fight. But Jones had him badly hurt in the 9th, and the outcome seemed certain.

Re: What If?
Had the feeling Griffin was either going to break down very late, or just slip away & lose a competitive decision. The end ruined it, not that I really blame the ref, but it was just so unsatisfying, especially for a close fight involving a fighter whom no one (not even Toney, albeit a drained Toney) could compete with.
It was good for Jones short-term --- he came out & annihilated Griffin the the re-run, & was vicious at times in a few other performances close to that time, but he lost his hunger & stopped seeking serious challengers long before Ruiz & Tarver were on his victims' list.
