He is overwight, thinks he is a puncher, is a southpaw but you wouldnt know it and is way to open to be getting hit by the dudes that he has faced so far

Re: Billy joe saunders
i think his weight is the main issue as mentioned.
sure i seen an interview about it, where his management have told him not to worry to much about his weight making cause he is a baby
i too think they will bring him along alot slower than FG & JD

Wow.
Surprised by all the negative outpourings regarding Saunders.
Prior to the Olympians going pro this lad was my pick as the fighter who would adapt most easily to the pro game - I still think he has a great style for the pros.
I would agree (to an extent) that his rapid move up in weigh classes is a little worrying but I certainly think he has move than enough talent to make it. Who knows how far he could have got in the Olympics if he hadn't run into that Cuban? Even in that fight, he acquitted himself well, I thought.
He is with Jimmy Tibbs who is a great trainer. Give him time to acclimatise to the higher weight div and I think he might start to make a noise then..

He's domestic level / lower euro level IMO. Happy to be proved wrong.
Re: Billy joe saunders
He has a capable opponent on Saturday- it will be interesting to see how that goes.
Would be good to see Lee Noble just find the right shot and put him down- I have nothing against Saunders, of course- I just would like to see one of the prospects tested a bit.

Re: Billy joe saunders
He is bull strong and eager, but lacks the finess and spark that is really required to reach the top.
That all said, he should earn a living and provide a few thrills along the way.
Apparently he is fighting the brother of comedian Ross Noble in Newcastle.

Re: Billy joe saunders
i still think hes the most tallented of the 3 but he needs to move down IMO but to beat a rugged journyman like spitko whilst being at too high a weight is good

Agree about the weight issue he always looks fleshy I really see him making Welterweight easily, but I have been reasonably impressed he has good body work and seems a hard puncher, Gavin has been so much more impressive thoughteddy007 wrote:He is out of shape and fights at the wromg weight, he could make welter/light-welter but he aint that good from what i've seen.

Before he had his pro debut i thought good things for BJS...Still hoping but middleweight is to big...if he can get down lighter then all good...hes with a good trainer in Tibbs,so il doubt he will let him skip any corners,at that end of the day hes young....so give him time to mature
Re: Billy joe saunders
Saunders will be the one to shine through, just wait and see.
Re: Billy joe saunders
Cant see a thinker in Him, worries me.
Re: Billy joe saunders
It's amazing how opinions change so quickly. After the Olympians first two fights the majority of people said Saunders looked the best of the three and would go far, now it's the opposite. It's quite simply to early to tell. It will be another two or three years before we really find anything out about the Olympians.

Very true - good point.ArtOfWar wrote:It's amazing how opinions change so quickly. After Frankie Gavin's first fight people were falling over themselves to call him amateurish and lacking in power. A few wins later and the same people are saying 'this kid is our best hope - a pro world champ in waiting'.
Lets give them all time to settle into the pro game, have a ten round fight or two, before writing ANY of them off.
For my money if Frankie and BJ show dedication and keep learning they have the ability to go the furthest out of all the Olympic squad but only time will tell.
Its a great time for British and Irish boxing with such a good quality set of amateur stars coming through in the pro ranks!

So true - If you look back through the years, there have been many boxers that were predicted to go far, but turned out to be far from capable.TerribleTerry wrote:Very true - good point.ArtOfWar wrote:It's amazing how opinions change so quickly. Look at Pele Reid and Matthew "First billion dollar athlete" Ellis after 8 or 9 fights people were saying, these kids have a got such a great future.
Up steps a geezer who lets one fly and bang, a few years later they are jumping into Tyson Fury`s punches begging to be stopped early. All the Olympians are talented fighters, but there is more to it than that. They need to be dedicated and willing to sacrafice a hell of a lot to reach anywhere near the top.

I have never thought anything about BJS. If he proves me wrong then good but I have always had my suspicians that he was in an unnatural weight and that he will find things hard going when he doesnt have refs that will 'compassionately' stop his opponents
