Lewis and Bowe (old clip)

Post by MR T »

This clip reminds me of why I loved Lewis, he was so calm and confident in his own ability, he did not fear anyone.....I think you can tell during their little conversation that Bowe didn't fancy it which turned out to be true!

Gosh I miss Lewis. And Bowe. And (the prime) Holyfield. What a mess the heavyweights are in today.

I wouldn't say they are in a mess. Indeed they are as organised as I can remember. It's just they are boring. The Klitschko's have zero charisma and are too clean cut. Haye could shake it up but I will believe it when I see it. The American 'prospects' like Arreola, Witherspoon, Thomson, Minto, Bennett, Guinn etc are all piss poor. I'll give someprops to Eddie Chambers who'll fight anyone. We certainly need an injection of talent. :TU:

Love the one where the guy says: "Bowe's reward for ducking Lewis time and again was brain damage from Holyfield and Golota, what a loser." :TU:

I really do believe the Bowe from the first Holyfield fight would beat Lennox..

But Im biased towards Bowe as he is my favourite heavyweight,, :TU:

Well, if they fought shortly after Bowe won the title from Holyfield in 1992, Bowe would have been too good for Lewis. Lewis was not afraid of Bowe, but at THAT stage in their boxing careers, Bowe was the more advanced fighter. Lewis was years away from his peak, while Bowe was at his!

Regardless, for a man of his size, Bowe was a tremendous inside fighter!

Bowe had been destroyed by Lewis in the Olympic final. Sometimes amateur results mean little in the pros, I'm thinking of Tyson-Tillman, when Tillman just pecked and ran to get a decision. But Lewis did a PROFESSIONAL job on Bowe in that final. Bowe's technical edge was evident then too - he outclassed Lewis in the first round, but all that did was make Lewis mad. A motivated Lewis would never have been beaten by Bowe, regardless of Bowe's impressive form in the pros. Bowe had the chance to get revenge for that Olympic destruction job and he never fancied it. As has been said, Lewis had his number and Bowe knew it.

The image of Bowe throwing the belt in the bin ( which I'm sure was reported on BBC/ITV) tld you all you needed to know about what he felt about a lewsi fight. Back then the belts werent as pathetic as they are now

The fight was trying to be made, I was when they had the meetings at Panos's house, but it was Bowe who pulled out, not Lennox....

Lewis had his number in my opinion, Bowe gets huge props for the Holy fights, but they showed the exact reason why Lewis would have knocked him out.

Bowe was such a good fighter, shame he ate himself out of the title like that. Him and Lewis would have been a great fight and I'll sit on the fence as I could see either guy winning, both had the tools to hurt each other. One we missed out on:-(

Brilliant times but IMO Prime Tyson beats them all.
