Khan-Salita Betting
I just don't see this one going the distance, 5/6 on Khan by stoppage seems a good price, after watching a bit of Salita he isn't the hardest fighter to hit but its worth a saver on a Salita to win by KO at 10/1 just incase the chin fails Amir for a second time.

2 things. One.......Salita is no mug.
2, Khan would be a mug, a big mug, if he jumps on this kid early. And, under Roach, and with what happened to him versus Prescott, Khan will not be going for an early stoppage. So your bets out the window mate I think.

oh, in the short clip I saw he said "at some time in the fight".
even so, 4 or 5 is still a chance to have a good look. Against BP Khan didn't bother to have a look at all.
I'll tell you, this Jewish lad seems to have good amateur pedigree. He talks very well also, and people that talk well (don't mix that up with Audley style smack talk to keep in them silk PJ's)...tend to be intelligent, and if he's intelligent will have a lot of knowledge and the ability to use it in a fight, adapt to what's happening etc...it will be a good one.

He said it live, whilst stood on the pitch wearing a Newcastle shirt. He has said repeatedly he wants to work Salita out, then give the "green light" to go stop him.He seems very confident, and has first hand knowledge of Salita.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:oh, in the short clip I saw he said "at some time in the fight".

I think...
65% chance of Khan KO
35% chance of Khan on points
So 5/6 (55% chance) is good value.

This guy has one of the most padded records i have ever seen, he's been knocked down in the first round by guys not even in the top 100, Khan will destroy him, it will be a very easy fight.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:Nightmare Roy wrote:I'm going Khan in rounds 2,3 & 4, odds are about 14-1

Re: Khan-Salita Betting
well that surprises me mate tbh. I didn't think somebody with that kind of amateur success would be a sucker.
Perhaps that explains the difference in a padded record Stateside and a padded record over here.
That said, I imagine many a Yank would look at Amir's record of opponents and knockdowns and be equally as sceptical...which would be a mistake, as Amir has some undoubted talent.

Re: Khan-Salita Betting
What will determine how the fight goes, imo, is how well Salita can deal with Khan's speed. If he can't deal with it then I doubt he'll last 12 rounds. And how is he going to deal with it? Salita looks lethargic in comparison to Khan, and he doesn't seem to have great timing or counter-punching skills.sg1985 wrote:Don't let his record fool you, the kid can fight. I expect Khan to take a win, I doubt he'll stop him though, he certainly won't stop him early. Khan should have more than enough to outpoint him, but I think the first half of the fight will be hugely competitive, just because a fighter has a so called 'padded' record doesn't mean he can't fight.
Re: Khan-Salita Betting
I'm having a little punt on Khan RD1, RD2 and RD3. Average of 20/1.
Salita has been put down by a guy with 4 KO's from 37 fights in the first round. And twice in the first round by a guy with 2 KO's in 27 fights.
Khan starts landing the jab, it'll only take a couple of over hand rights to wobble this guy. If he gets wobbled, Khan will be on him like a rash and the ref will be only to happy to jump in and end the fight.

Re: Khan-Salita Betting
Dont see anything in the Salita skill set to worry Khan; slow plodding foot work, slow mechanical punching technique, little power and a seemingly fragile set of whiskers. If Salita wasnt such a rarity there days (a jewish boxer based in New York) he wouldnt be undefeated and he wouldnt be so highly ranked. He is set up to make Khan look sensational IMO.
Re: Khan-Salita Betting
Looking at the Few clips of Brescottt before the Khan fight he looked a plodder and i assumed beating Guys who were rubish but hes shown in the khan fight and since hes a good fighter.
If Salita lands that Left hook out of the crouch that is in one of his clips then Khan will be out for sure ,
I think it will be a decent fight with Khan using his boxing on the back foot fast and light punches
should win on points comfortably but the "New" Khan doesnt excite me as much with the fast in and out puching not really planting his feet , cant see him getting many knock outs from now on.
You have got to go through Khans opponets and ask Would Salita beat them
and think the answer is yes he would so it is a step up in Class.

Khan sometime in the first six, unless Salita's got a much better chin than I give him credit for, in which case he'll lose every round on the scorecards. I've spent a lot of nights digging through online video sites for Salita footage that isn't of his Bar Mitzvah or of that Hassidic rapper guy, & I must've missed what sg1985 & NEBF have seen; in the videos I've watched of Salita he's awful -- slow hands, wide-open, not much on his shots, poor footwork, no head movement.

See, I wonder about people who say this. Do you undervalue Khan's obvious assets that much, & blinded to his obvious good qualities? Or is it rather a case that you hate the boy so much you think absolutely anyone (step forward those who confidently predicted Oisin Fagan would do the trick! You know you're out there!) will flatten him?U.F.O wrote:Anyone can beat KhanTerribleTerry wrote:Salita CAN'T win this fight. He is awful.
When provided video evidence of how fat, unmotivated & shot Barrera looked? The naysayers say "How stupid, it's MAB, of course he'll crush Khan!" Then act all surprised when they realise that the Mexican was indeed too small, too fat & too shot.
vs Kotelnik: "If he can't take Willie Limond's punches how will he take Kotelnik's?" When answered: "'cos he went after Limond like a twat & nearly got done for it, Roach won't let him vs Kotelnik". Then again, they act all surprised when Kotelnik proved too slow & light-hitting & undynamic to get the job done, or even to reach Khan's chin.
You're making the same mistake here. Khan will get beaten by a legitimate puncher, but not unless that legitimate puncher can get in range & unload on his chin -- something that is far harder now Freddie Roach has instructed him to shoe-shine & sprint at all costs. This is why Maidana probably won't beat Khan. I don't think the Argie could hit him with a handful of rice, TBH. Victor Ortiz though (despite losing to Maidana), would time him & put his lights out, & Bradley too. Which is why he'll be kept away from them.
Salita is in no way the man for the job.

Yes, i predicted fagan to beat Khan. He comes forward and throws punches. Khan has a glass chin. Admittedly though, Freddie Roach has done well with Khan. The Khan who was being trained by that Colombian guy could quite conceivably have been flattened by Fagan, for the simple reason that he could have been flattened by almost anyone who was capable of blindly landing with telegraphed punches through that non existant defence on that glass chin.
Roach has worked marvels with what he has. He didn't reinvent the wheel or teach Khan defence. He just changed Khan's style to make the best of his physical advantages, and improve his fitness so he could perform his now trademark flap and run style all night.
Shame though how people seem to think that Barrera was now 'too old, slow and small' to compete with a guy who would never be fit to carry his jockstrap - and that same Barrera coming into the fight in rd 5, and wobbling Khan despite being blinded by a torrent of blood streaming down his face, before the fight was ever-so-conveniently stopped.
i'm still shocked that anyone could possibly think certain fighters are magically incapable of hurting Khan because they're not Julian Jackson type herculean hitters. If Salita goes for it and lands a few, of course he can make a dent in that piece of crap Khan calls a chin. Whether he can catch up with Khan is a different story.

Re: Khan-Salita Betting
Hey dude, wasn't digging at you, sorry if it came across that way. I agree that it won't need to be a Herculean hitter. But it does need to be someone who can crack even a little bit (which, if you've seen Salita, virtually disqualifies him), which is why I'd pick Bradley & Ortiz (& though he's old & wearing down, JMM, who if nothing else can hurt a guy with his counters) but think Salita -- short, slow of hand & foot, no pop -- is going to get eaten.Riddick Blowe wrote: i'm still shocked that anyone could possibly think certain fighters are magically incapable of hurting Khan because they're not Julian Jackson type herculean hitters. But I really do not think Salita qualifies, just as Kotelnik didn't. By "dynamic" I meant a hurtful puncher who can get into range & get his shots off, not necessarily Julian Jackson. Maidana hits harder than Bradley & Ortiz, but he's just so crude & wild I couldn't for the life of me think that he'll be able to get near Khan, let alone hit him flush. If they fight, Roach'll have AK's hands glued to his chin, & he'll be under orders not to do anything but retreat -- certainly not punch back -- if the Argie gets within three feet.
No, I said that here (http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... &p=1588355) before the fight. You didn't listen then, in fact you told me he looked fine. He patently did not on fight night. He looked fat & shot.Shame though how people seem to think that Barrera was now 'too old, slow and small'

Re: Khan-Salita Betting
i meant now as in this stage of his career. Plus you're still ignoring the contest-altering cut and the fact Barrera was catching up with Khan and buckled him in the 5th. He may have been older and slower than he had been in the past, but without the cut this fight would clearly have been a different proposition, judging by the fact that Barrera could have seen what was going on in front of him and thus capitalise on the success he had despite being blinded by that horrendous cut.
