Hopkins is a ledgend but Haye hits too hard for a guy who is basically a blown up middle/super middle. This won't be another Ruiz v Jones. Haye by KO. But if Hops could pull it off, he'd go down as an all time GOAT.

i agree with toppler, Hopkins schools the technicallly flawed Haye. Dimensions wise Haye is not much bigger than Hopkins. Plus Hopkins goes up in weight well, he has one of/if not the best team in boxing, they know exactly what to do and when to do it. Plus with Brother Nasir Richardson's history of flawless gameplans, and hopkins ability to execute...goodbye haye.

   hopkins throws about 2 punches a round and headbutt's and clinches for the rest. all it takes is 1 big shot. haye dosnt even have to land flush. just look at the barret fight

Even a punch landing on Hopkins' arm would send him flying across the ring. I'd like to see the fight though - it would be amusing.

i cant understand why anyone thinks hopkins would make it past the 2nd round, theres a real chance of haye putting him a coma.

don't matter how skillfull Hopkins is, Haye will land one punch and he will be in trouble.

Haye would win in 2 rounds easy, it could be worse than what jones jr has just gone through.

well, Haye didn't throw that many punches in the opener vs Enzo Mac, didn't throw many in the first few against Barrett, and didn't throw many for the entire duration vs Valuev.

So I don't think it will be a first round KO for sure. Haye does alot of posing in fights, and alot of "looking good doing nothing" - and thats not even always against guys bigger than him.

He looked electric against Bonin, but thats a few fights ago now.

lol hopkins 3/4 punches around? sorry are you getting confused with haye's punch stats against the gentle giant valuev with the many punches thrown and landed against kelly pavlik? lol @ confusing a gatekeeper in monte barret with one of the best fighters in recent history. David haye wasn't getting rid of monte with one or two shots either it was more of an accumulation- and monte hasn't got a granite chin exactly. Only people with high workrates or superior skill have caused bernard problems - Haye has neither, plus he has a china chin. Maybe you should look into styles - as every one who properly knows this sport does, instead of just thinking "David Haye is a heavyweight, Bernard is a light-heavy, therefore automatically he must win because of size and strength" a recent example of this stupid theory being proved wrong was pacquaio vs cotto. Hopefully this fight happens, so you will be proven wrong - which judging by some of your knowledge must happen regulary ;-)

I agree he looked fantastic pal, but Bonin is a plod forward fighter with no skill compared to the ex. Plus who knows after 2/3 rounds Bonin could of beat him-giving haye's conditioning and all...lol

BHop has set the hype machine for this fight rolling, what can Haye come back with as to why he wont fight him? he's too old too small, this would just fuel hopkins to push the fight on him more.

Haye is not as good or as quick as calzaghe, and i dont this Joe hit him cleanly.

I think the old man could upset the champ just like Pavlick.

Kind of goes against Haye's mission statement of clearing out the heavyweight division to beat up a middle aged, past his prime, blown up middleweight doesn't it?

Plus the British public have already seen Calzaghe beat Hopkins in an even fight, they're not going to pony up for a one sided beating no matter how good the hype is.

Haye is a heavy weight not a light heavy, he rocked the beast from the east with his left if he hits hopkins, which he will, he'll spark him clean out. Hayes quicker, larger, more skilled, and is probably the hardest hitter in current boxing. What has hopkins got on his side?

I think haye might like the look of this fight its a low risk, big purse, high profile fight, nice quick and easy fight for him to keep in shape until he gets one of the klitschkos. After he destroys ruiz of course.

Cant see it going ppv in England though noone is going to pay out for a fight they all know is going to last about 4 minutes.

agreed except for more skilled, no way is Haye more skilled, you think that Haye would be competing at top level in his mid forties, not a chance mate.

I dont care what haye will be doing in his mid 40's thats not when the fight is going to take place. If your trying to tell me hopkins is more skilled than haye you need to watch more of both of their fights.

Were talking about a silver medalist at the amature world championships, undisputed cruiser weight champion, and world heavyweight champion vs a guy whos best years were at middle weight and they were a long time ago. Hopkins may be tough and wiley but hayes pedigree is on another level, if hopkins was skilled he would have got in the ring and boxed against calzaghe instead of that embarassment to the sport spoiler fest he put on.

I guessed you missed Haye's snoozefest with Valuev, the slow, unskilled plodder who threw no punches and has no power for his 320 pounds? It's alot harder to box and look good against a guy like Calzaghe who is very fast, skilled, and throws about 80 punches a round.

Haye would beat Hopkins at this stage. Hopkins was unimpressive against Ornales and Haye is to big. P4P at the same age Hopkins would beat him, but at I think he may finally be slowing down and the size disadvantage would be hard to overcome against a skilled guy like Haye.

Kingfin, explain this one to me. In another post you have Calzaghe down as beating RJJ, Hearns, Hagler, Leonard, Robinson, Spinks, and a slew of other legends in their primes. If Calzaghe is that great, then wouldn't it take a huge amount of skill to floor him, land clean counter punches on him, lose only a split decision, and even win the fight in some peoples eyes? Not to mention win world titles in two different weight division, set the all time record for MW defenses while scoring dominant victories in almost all your title bouts, including multiple wins over pound for pound rated fighters?

Imagine the options Hopkins would want on Haye if this ever got to the stage of negotiations!

Seriously, I really don't think there's much chance of this fight happening unless Hopkins was simply offering himself up for Golden Boy to get a slice of Haye. I have alot of respect for what Hopkins has done in his long career and think he is one of the most consistant fighters of all time, but I don't think he would have much of a chance against Haye.

Would a stipulated weight of 205 pounds change anyone's predicitions?

I honestly think that this fight would be a complete mismatch.

Sure, Hopkins is wily, has a good spoiling style and is a great counter puncher but going into this fight the only thing he would have over Haye is experience. Haye is significantly bigger, would almost certainly be faster given the weight Hopkins would have to put on, Haye's punch power is about 10 leagues above anyone else Hopkins has ever faced and of course Haye is also much younger.

For me Hopkins wouldn't last more than 4 rounds as he would be feeling every single shot Haye throws and, make no mistake about it, Haye would be throwing bombs from the first round in this fight as he would feel he could simply walk through Hopkin's punches to land his own. This wouldn't be the tactical battle that Haye fought against Valuev, Haye would be looking for a spectacular victory and I honestly don't see any way that Hopkins could handle the power Haye would hit him with. However good Hopkins chin may be at light heavyweight this is a whole new league in terms of power.

If I was Haye I would jump at the chance to fight Hopkins if he can't arrange a fight with one of the Klitschko's by September next year. The fight would be an easy night for him, would generate huge public interest (just imagine the press conferences!) and he would make an absolute fortune out of it.

I think the only reason people are giving Hopkins a chance in this fight is because he dominated Kelly Pavlik in his last fight. Sure that was a great display but any comparison between Pavlik who is a middleweight and David Haye, probably the hardest hitting cruiserweight of all time and pound for pound one of the hardest punchers in world boxing, even at heavyweight, is foolish.

Not for me because Haye has shown in the past that he can lose the weight and still fight effectively. I believe the David Haye that beat Maccarinelli would destroy Hopkins with his sheer power and speed and, if he was forced to, I think Haye could make 205lbs comfortably.

i think haye would hold the money chips if he convincingly beats ruiz
