Woody Clark
Anybody remember Woody Clark? Does anyone know what he's doing
today? We had (and won) our first pro fights on the same card in Tampa in
1981.

Yes, I do and I'm sure there are quite a few others on here who remember him as well. I never saw him fight live, but he was on TV quite a bit as an amatuer. While his pro career was disappointing I tend to think that might be partly because he turned pro so late. He certainly was a good amatuer fighter, and always came to fight.
Re: Woody Clark
Agreed. He was a great amateur but may have gotten burnt out on boxing.
I wonder how he's doing today?

Re: Woody Clark
Clark joined the US Army years ago and last I heard he was a sergeant. Chances are he is retired by now and living off his pension.

Re: Woody Clark
I seem to recall that he was in the Army when he fought many of those televised amatuer fights in the late 70's, although I could be wrong. Maybe he re-upped after his pro career didn't work out as planned.enrique wrote:Clark joined the US Army years ago and last I heard he was a sergeant. Does anyone remember Jimmy Clark from the same time period? A very good amatuer and great body puncher who actualy had some success in the pros, although he seemed to drop off the scene pretty quickly after an unexpected loss to Reggie Gross. Does anyone know his story?
Re: Woody Clark
Woody Clark was definitely involved in an Army career. Last I heard he was a staff sergeant and it takes more than one hitch to make it to E-6.
Jimmy Clark graduated from college with a degree in criminal justice. He might be employed as a policeman or probation officer.

Clark certainly gave so-called great Teofilio Stevenson fits, and beat Stevenso conqueror Igor Vysotsky.enrique wrote:Woody Clark was definitely involved in an Army career. Last I heard he was a staff sergeant and it takes more than one hitch to make it to E-6.

In an interview with Jimmy Clark published in Steve Canton's blog, Jimmy states that he working in law and running for judge.
Re: Woody Clark
I don't know where Woody is now but I know he was in the Army.In 79 & 80 he was boxing for the Army team out of FT. Bragg, N.C. I boxed him in 1980 in a local tourn. here in N.C. then later that year we fought again at the Eastern Olympic Trials in Greensboro N.C. I think Woody was the runner-up to Mitch Green in the finals of the Eastern Trials.
Re: Woody Clark
Amazingly, Woody knocked down Greg Page twice en route to a unanimous decision in the 1976 Eastern Regionals, held in Detroit.
