Yeah the inactivity hasnt helped but the 3 round sprint distance was never gonna suit his laid back counter punching style.

Would like to see him back out over 8 / 10 rounds in the near future to see what he has to offer.

He can look a million dollars when on form against the right style...

Yeah he needs to get some regular work off the back of Prizefighter - he is still young enough and if his hand are ok and he is training well then he could make another run at domestic titles I reckon..

He didn't look that bad, he was just starting to warm up. 17 months out of the ring and going into a 3X3 format wasn't the ideal comeback, he still has plenty to offer at domestic level.

Domestically I could see him easily getting back to british title level, he has the ability and a decent repetoire. TOnight didnt really ssuit him, not first fight back anyways, but good to at least see him bac in a ring and hopefully can come back. Barnes has had a frustrating career, always seemed to promise so much more than he has so far achieved.

i thought he looked ok, i was not surprised, he has a smooth boxing style and picks his shots, not really suited to prizefighter, prizefighter is for the whirlwind types of fighter....gavin rees..tony oakey etc..

Agreed - and to be fair, even looking poor against a top domestic fighter like Lynes he came damned close to taking the decision and could make a valid case that he was unlucky.

barnes will get better he's a quality boxer but injuries seemed to have an affect. he needs some six or eight rounders on a hatton bill and then he'll be ready to get some title fights whether it's english, british or european now that mccloskey is the champ.

Prizefighter's format does not lend itself to every style of fighter.

Mutley, Barnes etc did not suit the format.

Rees was perfect for it, busy body style was ideal for the show.

Vastly over-rated in my opinion.

And why does EVERY southpaw get annointed as a slickster by Adam Smith?

He has no jab, poor movement and mediocre conditioning.

Isn't boxing about what you DO, not what people THINK you can do?

Another, along with Alex Arthur, transparent creation of the Sky Boxing years 1997-2005.

At least James Hare was busy, and found his ceiling.

The best I can say about Barnesy, is, he's an enigma.

I often wonder why these sort of fighters go into Prize-Fighter, they and their trainers should know that their style does not lend itself to this format so all it means is a L on their record, a couple of grand and a lot of us saying on forums that they should never have entered.

Don't think he wants to be a fighter unless he is on top. Feels too sorry for himself when he starts going wrong. I don't think he has looked good since beating Hare and that was about 5 or 6 years ago
