Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
first of all. really good disiplined performance from mitchell. didn't agree with the cards tho. i had it 116-112 mitchell. mitchell showed he can box..take a good shot at lightweight..we already know he can have a tear up. who would you like to see him fight? katsidis vs mitchell would be epic. both all action tough fighters. i have no doubts kev can win a world title

Mitchell vs Katsidis would be great.

That would be a very good fight, but I don't see it happening.sg1985 wrote:What about Murray-Mitchell after Murray wins the EBU? I'd love to see that.

X2. Won't happen though. Mitchell is in the WBO lounge now, waiting for that vacant belt, so Murray will be beneath him, fighting for the European title.
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
apparently marquez is campaigning at light ww so he hill will vacate it soon. so i could imagine as this was a wbo final eliminator tonight that it would be katsidis vs mitchell spring next year
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
I rate Mitchell, but I also rate Katsidis. A fight between the two could well shorten their careers a great deal. Mitchell might have a better chin, but Katsidis punches harder.
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
Who knows whats happening to Marquez... how about Mitchell vs Barrera for the WBO title? Lets keep the Khan comparisons going!
Excellent display from Kevin. I thought the commentary was a little off at times. Not the 5th round.... Mitchell might have knicked it, but Prescott landed some clean bombs - which Mitchell took well, and made a few gestures about. Because Mitchell took them well, it might Darke shout "great round from Mitchell" - whereas the round previous... Mitchell didn't take any shots didn't get the same plaudits. Its seemed Mitchell won a few rounds primarily cause he showed he could take Prescotts shot!
I think 116-112 is a good card. I gave a couple of the later rounds to Prescott for some good work with the jab. Although Mitchell was disciplined, in control and showed great boxing.
Prescott can come again... probably needs to move up to Welter and needs a different coach. He showed a decent chin himself (got no credit for it) - just way to raw.

Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
great discipline from mitchell tonight,a classy performance and great game plan.you could see him slip focus for a second or two in the later rounds, but now apparently mature enough to get straight back to business-a job well done.hes improved so much under tibbs i would love to see mitchell v murray next year.........................
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
Very impressed with that, I really thought this would be a disasterous fight for Mitchell. Glad to be wrong.
I'd give Mitchell a shot at beating Katsidis after that.

Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
Is Mitchell not able to make 130 anymore, I'm not really up to date on his situation. I know he was scheduled to face Martinez for the WBO title and he would have won in my opinion.

mitchell was martinez mandatory. but mitchell was injured for a year. then found he couldn't make the sfw limit. no doubt about it mitchell would have ko'd martinezcrusader wrote:Is Mitchell not able to make 130 anymore, I'm not really up to date on his situation. murray's defence isn't good enough i don't think. mitchell would ko him. would be a great fight. but i would rather see them both try and establish themselves on the world stage before fighting each otheralexpaterson wrote:I would like to see himin with Murray but he may want a title shot so Katsidis would be great
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
decent call actually - he has the heart and the chin. You do get the suspicion that somebody someday will give him a hell of a beating that he just won't know how to get out of.Des1 wrote:Mitchell = British Gatti

Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
No, he's got more than just heart and chin...Just like Gatti did, you dont win World titles on just 'heart and chin' and I'm talking about a prime Gatti, and all of Gatti's strength's, ie had a punch, iron chin, heart of a lion, could brawl, could fight in the trenches and when he got with McGirt to train him showed he could box beautiful. To me Mitchell has got the punch, iron chin, lion heart, can brawl, fight in the trenches and now he is being trained by Tibbs its shown he can box beautiful....Anyway Gatti was never really given 'a hell of a beating that he didn't know how to get out of' even when he was past his best. Never the less, I think your remark regarding Gatti is a little disrespectfull to a great champion from our times and not really called for. RIP GattiTykemania wrote:decent call actually - he has the heart and the chin. Have feeling that despite the discipline he might show, Mitchell would be drawn into a war & if that's the case, we are in for a brutal battle!Horse wrote:Mitchell vs Katsidis would be great.

michael katsidis hopefully.
in the uk would be even better.
that should be a headliner all on it's own.

Kat would be a great fight and opponent.
Re: Kevin Mitchell! Who Next?
I'd rather not see Murray/Mitchell just yet. I mean, I think it would be a great scrap, but both have been grafting on the domestic scene for too long to risk sliding down the ladder and I'd rather they saw what each other could do at european/fringe world level first before maybe facing off when both have higher profiles. Mitchell's proved he can mix it at a decent level, so I'm sure Murray's capable of similar form.
It's a difficult call, lightweight's a pretty loaded division at the very top, although there are a few guys who could make for some relatively decent paydays for both.
Katsidis is the obvious choice because he's probably the most beatable of the higher profile guys at the weight, that and his style would probably gel very well with either Mitchell or Murray. A win in style over Katsidis would propel either of our guys into the mainstream, or at least they'd be in the picture internationally.
I'd like to see Murray/Mezaache then take on a Prescott level of fighter, with Mitchell getting a crack at Katsidis.
I've criticised both guys in the past and I still have reservations, but I think if they aren't rushed into the wrong fights they could both do very well.
