Quiz: Largest Gate Receipts by 1930
In light of the other quizzes posted in here I find enjoyable I thought I would chime in as well.
I found an article that listed then top gate receipts up to that point in history. The year it was printed was 1930. 14 fights were listed. The top three in order were Dempsey/Tunney II (2.65 mill), Dempsey/Tunney I (1.89 mill), and Dempsey/Carpentier (1.6 mill). Can you fill out the rest of the top 14? I will fill in the answers as people guess right.
Hint: all but one involved heavyweights.

The first is a good guess. Both fighters have fights on the list that have not been said; just not against each other. Bingo on the second one.tegenm wrote:Wills-Firpo

Yes on two. Willard/Firpo drew about as many as Dempsey/Willard. And Jack's fight with Brennan at MSG made the list at the bottom. That means that no more fights with Jack Dempsey are left. Only Two remaining!wouter wrote:The 1st Sharkey v. Schmeling fight?

The lesson here is not to make quick guesses when you are half asleep.
