David Haye V Frank Bruno - who do you reckon ?

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

I decided to make this thread to gauge what kind of confidence there was behind David Haye as a heavyweight.

How would he fare against Big Frank Bruno.

We all know who Frank is - the lovable loser who starred in panto and the HP Sauce adverts.

But Bruno was also a muscle bound big puncher - and while static and a bit chinny - was a massive puncher.

Bruno took Tim Witherspoon to the 12th and final round before getting knocked out.

Bruno rocked Mike Tyson before getting stopped on his feet in round 5 and faring worse in a rematch getting stopped in 3 rounds.

Prime and inspired Bruno also gave Lennox Lewis one of his toughest ever fights - rocking Lewis and making life tough - before being caught with a sweet counter left hook - which Lewis brutally followed up on to stop a brave Bruno on his feet in 7 rounds.

Bruno also achieved his dream and outpointed Oliver McCall over 12 rounds - to be WBC Champion.

Bruno has a iffy chin and stamina issues and is a huge puncher.

Haye has a iffy chin and stamina issues and is also a powerful puncher.

Prime 4 Prime who wins this heavyweight fight ?

Bruno never beat a top fighter and didn't really hurt tyson or lewis, not enough to wobble them badly or knock them down anyway,so for me haye would win,and bruno was stopped in the 11th round against witherspoon, which i'm sure was a 15 round fight, maybe wrong.

Frank Bruno's a good man, that much I will say.

He was too muscular, imho, and really only knew him as 'The British Glass Jaw' growing up, for every time he stepped up he would get kayoed. However, he was, outside of Douglas, the best of Tyson's contenders. He was rarely ever in a dull fight.

Haye, for me anyways, is too early to tell how good he really is. Sure he can out run giants, and put up good slugfests with journeymen like Monte Barrett (or gatekeeper, however you like), but he hasnt quite fought the caliber of men, yet imo, that can suggest he is better than Frank.

Franks skills are underated. he had a lovely jab. he was giving lennox a boxing lesson until getting caught.

He would easily pick up a strap if he was fighting today. JUST THINK WHAT HE'D DO TO HIS DOMESTIC RIVALS!!!! HE'D LOOK A BEAST!!

Bruno's jab would bust Haye up. His right hand, to frightening to contemplate.

It would be a case of whoever connected first wouldnt it.

I was a big Bruno fan in the day but Haye i think would probably slip a right in the quickest.

Bruno never went down with one punch though it was always flurries of punches so he would be dangerous until he was stopped on his feet.

Besides Tyson i cant think of anyone as quick as Haye Bruno has fought. Hes faster than lennox was which makes me think haye would have him with a flurry in about 3.

Brunos jab although strong was slow

Tough one IMO, but think Haye could stay out of the way for a few rounds. Then when Bruno was running out of gas, Haye would catch him with a big shot & Frank would freeze bringing the refs intervention.
Great match up though

There seems to be alot of confidence behind Big Frank.

I am guessing alot of the younger generation are going to root for Haye.

While those who saw Bruno fight and followed his career back in the day believe he could boss the fight.

I think Bruno KO is the most likely outcome. :box:

Lets remeber - I dont think it is a case of who lands first.

If Haye lands one of his big right hands - Frank feels it but shrugs it off.

It took a successive of bombs from both Tyson and Lewis to stop Bruno who still stayed on his feet.

But if Bruno lands one of them monster overhand rights - well Haye will have to show he has a better chin than I give him credit for.

I think this fight will see Haye running all night long like against Valuev.

I think if Haye fought to his natural style he would struggle to get past the jab and get bust up, however he has more than Plan A and would stay out of the way, let Bruno tire out a bit and get to Big Frank late on. It has to be said Bruno is a murderous puncher, certainly with the power to take Haye out and could never be discounted.
