Horror crime - justice is done

Heavyweight Jo-el Scott was found guilty today of battering to death an elderly woman with his bare fists in a horror crime last June.
The 33-year-old Scott testified he stumbled upon 59-year-old Dorothy Royal in a park in his hometown of Albany as two other men were beating her. In reality, he had been drinking and doing drugs all night when he raped and murdered Royal in a sex-driven, early-morning attack.
The prosecutor said everybody knew Scott in Albany - a former rising heavyweight star and convicted rapist, and he deliberately killed the only witness to his rape.
As one resident, David Barron, said: "He was monster in the ring and a monster out of it.
"I hope he remains in prison this time; that's where he belongs."
Scott turned pro after winning bronze at the 1993 world amateur championships in Finland (he was outpointed 8-0 by brilliant Cuban Roberto Balado in the super-heavyweight semis).
He reeled off 16 straight wins before he was sentenced to five years in jail in 1996 for the the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
He served four, and resumed his ring career in 2000, with mixed success. Trial horse Ray Austin stopped him in eight in his last fight in August 2003.
A big puncher, he stopped 19 of his 20 victims.

Christ, the man is obviously a complete sex-freak, some people just have to be kept behind bars sadly. Hard to see how you can cure someone like that.

5 years for raping a 12 year old girl..... thats a pathetic sentence.... see the shitty justice system cost a poor women her life

and i presume its coincidence that the guy who bombed him out in 2002 shares the same surname as the woman he raped and killed

Sentences are all about protecting property, rape figures low on the list of crimes generally. Murder is generally punished less than armed robbery. They deter people from armed theft as it's a crime many criminals would consider committing if it weren't for lengthy sentencing. Rape is something which is only likely to be done by people with mental problems or drug addicted lunatics like this guy, and so sentencing reflects that.

Had he not murdered the second victim, he probably wouldn't have gone down for life either, although sentencing is harsher in the states.

Yeah, sharing a cell with this guy would be no laughing matter, though it's quite possible that he's completely normal when not smoking crack.

God knows, he may well be clean now. Crack really is a godawful drug, brings out the worst in everyone who does it. That guy will probably spend the rest of his life in jail, all for a few hits on the pipe.
