Macaranelli LaMontange
Just heard some worrying news from an American writer who asked me about Macaranelli. According to him his scheduled opponent is in a bad way, slurring his words, memory loss and and poor reflexes. Apparently the writer who has spoken to LaMontange several times in recent years prior to bouts was appalled at how bad he sounded on the phone and the fact that the guy didn't remember ever having spoken to him before.
This is a great concern, because Macaranelli can certainly hit.
I hasten to add that this is no criticism of Sports Network, as I'm sure there's no way they would know about this.

In fairness, I doubt those words came from Enzo himself. More likely it was a sports network press release. Enzo doesn't strike me as the type to say those kinds of things. It's just hooplah to sell tickets, it's been going on since the fight between ug and gruhh the cavemen heavyweight champs.Lefthookhappy19 wrote:LaMontange supposed to be a part time model. He's also 35. Remember a couple of months ago before Haye vs Thompson? Macarrinelli came out and said he was going to report him to age concern for beating up old men.
As somebody who knows the people around LaMontagne, the rumors are absolutely true. Heck, he was in bad shape BEFORE the Dale Brown fight. I wasn't remotely shocked he was knocked out in two. The only thing Richie had left was his chin, and now that's completely gone.
I really hope the BBB of C recognizes that the man's reflexes are completely gone. If not, Enzo gets him out in under one round and it won't be pretty.

That makes sense.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Right, I did wonder whether it was just a rumour, but the guy who contacted me had no reason to lie about it, he's only a journalist, so there's nothing in it for him.
Do you think there's a chance LaMontagne won't step into the ring in two weeks? I remember another Massachusetts area fightert tried to fight in England (Joey DeGrandis), but he failed his medicals.
I really hope for Richie's sake, he doesn't get in the ring. There's no question he could get seriously hurt.

Trouble is he could still technicaly pass the tests. Somebody should enlighten SN to these rumours, or maybe Sky TV. They're paying for this, and surely can't want another Kebede type one round farce on their hands.
I remember looking at the guys record, and thinking he could maybe punch a bit by the looks of it - Enzo still has that suspect jaw - but these rumours sound ominous...

Shocking stuff, last month on the WBU website they had Madjid Zaim as Big Mac's next opponent before LaMontange. Don't know what happened to that one?
Even Ray Oliveiras promoters dropped LaMontagne, so he must be in a bad way...hopefully Big Mac will only load up with the bodyshots. It Looks like SN have put profitability before credability again (allegedly).

This is not a knock on Sports Network, why would they neccesarily know, the only reason I know is because someone who spoke to him recently said he sounded real bad, it's unlikely that they are going to have spoken to him direct, and at the end of the day he wants to fight, and his people want the fight, I just don't like the idea of someone who is apparently shot getting in with as big a puncher as Macaranelli.
it's quite possible that his people don't want anyone to know either, as it would mean no payday for their guy.
However, having not heard him myself i can't attest to that.
If the guy passes his medicals, then there's nothing to stop him fighting. i just hope nothing bad happens that's all.

I thought the exact same thing, i thought the guy would at least have a punchers chance. But i never knew he was in such a bad wayMightyWarrior wrote:I remember looking at the guys record, and thinking he could maybe punch a bit by the looks of it - Enzo still has that suspect jaw - but these rumours sound ominous...

I was mainly directing that question at Grey. I'm not disputing that it's possible, I was just wondering how long he's been like that if it's true.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I don't know, a journalist I know said his speech was badly impaired when he last spoke to him, for all I know he could have been pissed.

Enzo Macaranelli gave his opponent a systamatic, controlled beating last night. Lamontage looked in good shape but all he had to offer was a big heart and had no answer to the big Welsh fighters quick, hurtfull shots. Macaranelli looked good last night and it was good to see him keeping his hand up high. It was a good caculated and controlled performance I feel, but he wasn't up against that much of a threat from what I could see.
