The Fighting McIlroys - BBC1 Scotland Monday 9pm
Set your videos or put your feet up in front of the box on Monday night because on BBC1 Scotland at 9pm a boxing documentary called The Fighting McIlroys will be shown.
The fly on the wall programme centres around the Stevenston gym set up by unemployed Hugh McIlroy to keep his own kids and others off the streets and the struggle he has to keep it open.
Hugh's own youth was blighted by gang related incidents that saw him spend time in various institutions, but his sheer desire to give his own boys a better start in life, as well as the kids of others, has paid dividends - especially in boxing.
His oldest son, George McIlroy, was a Scottish amateur champion who now fights professionally under Tommy Gilmour and is unbeaten in his four professional fights to date. And his younger boys, Jamie and Shug are doing well in the amateur ranks too and could well follow suit.
Filmed over two years, it captures much odf the essence of grassroots boxing in Scotland today and is a documentary that you won't want to miss.

Seemed a real tough estate and How down to earth does Gilmour seen was good to see him speak on it, also good to see the journey man speak and be recognised, but again highlights the problems of funding for many scottish or in general amature clubs.
george is set to fight again on 31st of this month with kevin anderson topping the bill, unsure when his bro is making his debut,
red dragon : posted that stuff to you today sorry its late.

Don't suppose anyone has heard what's become of these two? Neither has fought since the start of the year. I know George, the one which the programme focussed on, did seem a bit prone to injury, whilst the younger one, Jamie, soesn't seem to be on Gilmour's books on the boxrec info anyway. And there's been plenty of cards on the go this year.
