Gomez is barely recognisable from the fighter who schooled Sam, let alone the guy who dominated the cruiser scene.

And I would like Boxing Central for posting the result since I didnt want to wait for the result of the fight when it will be shown on TV in two hours.

Gomez looks in terrible shape...on Boxing Central they were saying how he seems to have learned from the mistakes he made against Azcuy or whatever he calls himself these days but obviously not. His conditiong is apalling, what has happened? At Cruiserweight and in his first few Heavyweight fights he was in good nick but now he looks like a bloated future Audley opponent.

Gomez had a very nasty eye. Because of it he had to Ko Defiagbon or he would lose because of it, and he did.

fat or not, great result for Gomez, seems like the injury gave him the kick up the ass and urgency he needed to get the KO..... uncharacteristicly looking for the KO.... maybe he should do it more often!!!

Wonder if it was anything like James Toney's four round thriller with Tim Littles.

seriously, how the hell was this result possible? Oleg maskaev, a proven heavy puncher, landed his best shots on defiagbon and david gutsed it out for 12 rounds. Now, a box n mover who left his power at cruiser steps up and KO's him?

What??

I think Maskaev was very cagey in that fight Riddick, perhaps a little gun-shy. It was on Channel 5, if I remember rightly, and it really was a must-win for Oleg if he wanted to go any higher with what's left of his career, so I think he might have been holding back a bit, not letting this big bloke get to his chin.

Sure oleg was cautious because he was up against a monster of a guy and maskaev knows his own chin is bad. But he landed a lot of heavy shots, and david took them well.

True. Maybe the knockout punch Gomez landed was a big lumbering haymaker with all his extra weight in it i.e. a one-off bomb.

Defiagbon didnt go down. Gomez landed like 30 secs of unanswered punches so the ref stopped it. It was a perfect stoppage.

Defiagbon looked like an old man in his previous fight, and obviously wasn't in great condition judging by his huge pot belly.

Gomez seems to have aged 10 years since he fought Samil Sam, his whole build has changed as well, much more muscular and thickset. He's barely recognisable.

Gomex has been granted a visa by Castro so he will fly to Cuba next week to visit his family, including two of his children, that he hasnt seen in 10 years.

Is that usuall?

Has a defected Cuban Boxer ever been allowed back into Cuba whilst he is still active before?

gomez vs defiagbon

Post by sky »

Defiagbon was out of shape for the fight. He took the fight on 2 weeks notice and didnt spar with any southpaws, he had also never been given a tape on gomez. He didnt know what to expect from him. If defiagbon had more notice and proper training i believe the outcome could have been different.
Where can I get pictures of the fight? anywebsites with action photos??? :TU:

1. he lost 11 kilos since he has been joining Universum
2. even weighing 150 kilos Gomez would kill Harrison.
3. never name a good boxer with this A-Farce
4. be surre he will look different next time

I thought Gomez looked ok, considering he was coming off a bad loss like that. Made the other guy look like a lumbering novice - his fast hands just couldn't miss.
If he carried real heavyweight power, he'd have had the guy out of there in a couple of minutes.
In the end, he just landed so many shots DeFiagbon didn't know if he was coming or going.

As it turned, out he was going.

Gomez would probably still take Sam to school if they met again.

I wouldn't say Gomez looks bloated as such, but he does look a lot different to the guy who beat Sam, he's a lot chunkier to say the least, he looked a fairly lanky heavyweight before that.

say what you like about Universum fighters but 99% of the time they are in condition to do 12 rounds.......

only a couple of occasions i can think of when they have gassed...

Wlad in two fights, Krasniqi in one fight.....

I would like to see some more pics of Gomez to really see what shape he was in..... Defiagbon was well out of shape by the looks of things (he did take this at short notice)
