1978 Ali vs Norton fourth fight, Spinks vs Holmes,

Post by marchegiano007 »

The year 1978 what if Ali would had defended the title against Ken Norton? In the fourth fight between then? I guess this time Norton would had won by decision, that is why Ali did not wanted Norton. For the previews 3 fights were very close. Now what if Ali had defended against Larry Holmes. i guess the same Larry Holmes would had beating Ali but not by tko but by decision. What if Norton would had fought Spinks? Norton by ko in 5 rounds easy for Norton. Spinks vs Holmes? they fought a little bit later any way Holmes by ko in 5.

1978 Ali was not going to beat Ken Norton or Larry Holmes. He was done.

Exactly. and Ali could not beat spinks by ko the way holmes did. Norton and Holmes would had destroyed Spinks in 5 rounds. And even i can see Norton stopping maybe this time Ali in 12 or 13 rounds. The same Larry Holmes.

I think the Ali of Spinks ll has enough gas in the tank to lose to both by a wide decision. Neither was a devastating puncher.

He could still beat Norton the same way he "won" the third fight, that is by getting rounds just for being there. The judges would have to make a lot harder work than before, but one cannot rule out this possibility.

Ali avoided a 4th bout with Norton, there's no questioning it, for it was in the contracts that if Norton beat Bobick he was going to get Ali. Ali was hoping "the great white hope" (Bobick) would have won, but he was blowed out in one round. Ali began talking retirement, everyone was buying into it, and then Spinks challenged Ali, but Ali and others told him it could only happen if Spinks beat a top 10 heavyweight, so Spinks beat Alfio Righetti via decision. When Spinks became champion, and refused Norton, the WBC got tired of the games being pulled for so long and awarded Norton the title.

IMHO, Norton, Holmes would have beaten Ali, and is there any doubt that Norton and Holmes would have easily beaten Spinks, after all Larry would defend his own HW crown against Neon Leon and kayo him in three rounds.

If Ali defended against Norton for the 4th time, Norton would've beaten Ali by decision and won that undisputed belt.Holmes would beat Spink, but probably would've done it in seven rounds.Leon may have had a little more life then.
