HOHOHO! YOUR BOXING CHRISTMAS WISH LIST FOR 2010!

Post by overhand_right »

Tis the season brothers & sisters! Don we now our gay apparel & share our boxing Christmas wish list for 2010! What do you want this year? I'll start:

(1) The WBA to abandon super-champions and work towards unified champs in every division.

(2) All three major bodies to discard the crooked 'interim' titles cluttering the sport.

(3) The WBO, IBO, and all other superfluous sanctioning bodies to be put to a firey death forever.

(4) The heavyweight mess cleaned up - hopefully by Haye whacking John Ruiz and Wladimir Klitschko, leading to a unification with Vitali.

(5) Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Evander Holyfield and Roy Jones to all retire without any horrifying beatings - maybe Hopkins to have a foray into the Cruisers then hang em up?

(6) Kelly Pavlik to stop fighting bums and take on Paul Williams and/or winner of Super Six (presumably Arthur Abraham or Carl Froch, that'd be frickin ACE)

(7) Manny Pac v Floyd Mayweather not to go tits up in any way.

(8) Audley Harrison to win the European title and Amir Khan to not duck Marcos Madaina - win lose or draw you'll have to respect him for taking on a beastly hitter!

(9) Sugar Shane Mosley to get the winner of Pac/Mosley!

If all of that happens, I'll be happy as a pig in feces. If so much as one thing doesn't happen, I'll run amok and gun you all down next Christmas.

i know ill be in the minority here , but ....... here goes ..... i dont mind all the different belts / sanctioning bodies , as they give people something to fight for that maybe wouldnt achieve anything if it wasnt for them , what i dont like is when people claim their world champions etc and also dont like sanctioning bodies having more than one champ as to me thats just to make more revenue . what id prefer is the lower belts , wbu , wbf etc etc to provide just intercontinental and the like and the main bodies to ditch that tag so that champions of each belt know exactly what their level is , world , intercontinental , continental , national etc etc .

bbc to pick up the sport and dedicate itself to it, Bernard Hokins to keep defying father time, I hope 2010 is nowhere near as tragic as this year, A genuine young American Heavyweight to emerge, David Haye to beat both Klitschko's, I want Pac/Mayweather to be competitive, Paul Williams to become a household name, Dilks, Dodson, Quigley and Smith to all fight each other, Kell Brook, Kevin Mitchell and Rendall Munroe to all get title shots, for the Olympians to genuinely be tested, I want the ABA's to return to their former glory.

BBC and ITV to realise that if they market it right there is an audience for boxing, especially with the behind the scenes formats and possibly introducing an element of viewer participation (maybe in choosing who fights who in a prizefighter/contender style show)

More even undercard fights, maybe put some of these 'prospects' in a fight they may possibly lose? perish the thought.

ITV and BBC to bring back professional boxing on our screens!

Amir Khan to fight Maidana and Bradley.

Enzo Macc to win British, Commonwealth and European crusierweight titles (I feel for the lad).

Chad Dawson to unify the lightheavyweight division and become a name.

Mayweather to beat Pacquiao on points and make me some money.

A young, fast, powerful, skilled, durable and enough size-ish Heavyweight prospect to emerge.

Another awesome Heavyweight prospect to emerge to rival the first down the line.

Evander Holyfield to retire for good, debt free.

Macklin to get a shot at and pick up the IBF belt by ko'ing Sylvester.

Murray to beat Katsidis.

Rhodes to get a world title shot.

Moore to get some good luck.

Kirkland to get out of jail.

That's enough I think - don't want Santa to think I'm greedy!

*A governing body to be created to oversee our sport on a global front, such as Fifa does for football

*Boxing to revert back to one champion per division.

That would just about do it. I've never been the greedy type and dont like to ask for too much, but if Pacquiao were to KO Mayweather in spectacular fashion that would definately be the cherry on my cake, so to speak!

1: Less alphabet soup bullcrap. I know we won't get rid of it completely, but please god no more "Diamond Belts" or Champions Emeritus or any of that other garbage.
2: More fair decisions. It's time that we stopped seeing results like Funeka-Guzman and Diaz-Malignaggi 1. Judges who produce scorecards like the 119-110 one in Williams-Martinez should be banned too.
3: More of the big fights to come off. Mayweather-Pacquiao must happen. Haye vs. either of the Klitschkos must happen. I want the Super 6 tournament to keep producing good fights and for Mosley to get another really big fight.
4: Continued and extended terrestrial TV coverage. ITV should stick with the sport and the BBC should get more involved. There's no excuse for them not to be.
5: I'd like for certain fighters to be more active and to break into the big fights. Valero is potentially a huge star but doesn't fight enough and his opposition is weak. If he can get a lience to fight in the US then he could really bring some life to the lightweight and light welter divisions next year. There are other fighters who don't seem to fight nearly enough either and I'd like to see them fight more.
6: The emergence of a talented young American heavyweight would be great for the sport, even if it doesn't seem very likely.
7: I want to see the new generation of British fighters start to emerge and take over from the Hattons and Calzaghes. British boxing is in pretty rude health if you think about it. There's the former Olympians, the other talented kids who've come through from the amateurs, and then there's the ones who are on the fringes of the next level like Brook and Cleverly. A couple more good wins for those guys and we will hopefully have a new crop of mainstream stars in the sport to replace the older generation.
