tell you this...at 46 holyfield

Post by boxerbob »

would give the russian robots a better fight than the last ??? american challengers

the vitali and wladimir school of boxing.....jab , jab right hand..repeat x100

skill level is terrible , what does that say about the standard of the heavyweight division???

they dont have head movement , they dont throw in combinations above 2 , they dont hook or throw body punches , no uppercuts , no infighting - just big strong guys

holyfield would still make a fight of it , he would move , punch in combination , fight inside and throw punches such as hooks and uppercuts....a whole lot more than all these other so called american top 10s

i really hope haye beats these 2 robots , they only have size and punching power , other than that they are very basic

Holyfield has forgotten more about boxing than anyone in the top 10 will ever know.

As Larry Merchant said in 2002 as Holy was hammering Rahman - 'we outghta take some of Holyfield's DNA and insert it into the curretn crop of young heavyweights'

Holyfield is 46, punchy and shot to pieces. He'll struggle to beat an old fat Botha so the idea of putting him in with either of the Klitschko's is farcical at best and cruel at worst!

He's pointing out, correctly, that Holyfield even at 46 wouldn't lay passively against the ropes ala Chagaev and Kevin Johnson. These guys refuse to even fight.

Holyfield will beat Botha up easily, the same way he battered & dropped Savarese.

Holyfield could do absolutely nothing different to what Johnson did tonight. It would be like watching a re-run if he did get a shot.

They have to fight someone so the dross form the states get their shots for that reason alone. However it would be a sorry sight to see Holy getting bashed about by them and defacing his legacy even more.

Of course 10-15 years ago it would have been different. I actually think at that point Evander was still past his best but he would still likely overwhelm the Ukranians. The Evander of pre the first Moorer fight was terrific. Great chin, conditioning, underrated power and awesome energy. But it was his combos and variety that set him apart. Strange thing is that when you watch those fights or read articles from the time Evander was given very little credit or respect until he beat Bowe in the rematch and then gained the legendary status when he conquered Tyson when supposedly finished. Before the Bowe rematch Holyfield had lived in Tyson's shadow as at that point everyone still had this deluded opinion of Mike and thought him invincible even after Douglas had completely destroyed him. I mean Tyson got his ass kicked that night against a talented but weak chinned middle of the road heavyweight (for the time) but people made excuses and tried to explain it away because it was so truly shocking. The fact is that when that fight started Mike looked in as good a shape as he ever had. You don't have a physique like that unless you've been training like a beast.
But to the modern day I think it's tragic to see Holyfield still going. The romance there was with Foreman still going in his 40's just ain't there. Foreman always had the Hail Mary punch in his arsenal which always kept it morbidly interesting. Evander doesn't. So it's just morbid. :(

Nothing is easy for Evander at this stage. Also I think it's a bit unfair to compare Chagaev's efforts to Johnson's. Ruslan had much more of a go and took a hell of a lot more punishment. Don't forget he was dropped heavily and was being backed up as opposed to backing off if you know what I mean. :box:

holyfield can't punch in combinations any more. he's shockingly slow. he as dominated by larry donald. and larry donald was schooled by prospect/russian robot alexander povetkin, who had only 10 or so fights as a pro!

holyfield's last hurrah was to be carried by a disinterested valuev, who told his promoter he didn't want that fight, in an absymal contest.

then because neither man did anything, some internet geniuses find a way to give evander benefit of the doubt, another great achievement, holyfield turns back the clock, self indulgent shite if you ask me.

Holyfield would be stopped by both of them. He is no where near as elusive as Johnson, not as strong as Arreola or Peter, and not as skilled as Gomez. Chagaev, Ibragimov, and all these other fighters are a level above him nowadays and they were all outclassed by either Klitschko. Surely this thread is a joke. The man could hardly win a round against Larry Donald, another guy who was stopped by a Klitschko.

At 47, I reckon Holyfield could still give any top 10 HW a challenging fight. Valuev couldnt hurt him, neither could Ibragimov. He went the distance with both and arguably beat one (Valuev). He may talk punchy, but the man is in better condition than 75% of the HW contenders out there, and has more skill. Against the Klits, I bet 10-1 he could go 8 rounds with either of them and still be in the fight, meaning being competitive.

He will beat Botha, and what then? He's more than a cut above any other 40+ HW out there in the world, and certainly a cut above most the HW contenders---surely he could beat Minto, Golota, Barrett, like Haye, Adamek and Arreola done. It wouldnt surprise me if Holyfield couldnt beat Ruiz again, or beat other top American HW's like Estrada.

He's got as much a chance as any, to beat the Klits as anyone else, even at this point. Call me crazy, but Holyfield still has it to make giants like Valuev look foolish, punch out awkward quick movers like Oquendo, and certainly has what it takes to out brawl Frans Botha inside of six rounds.
