'Hate me now' says Khan as he backtracks on racist comments

I love the old 'out of context' line. Context does matter hugely in some instances but this seems a typical "Ooh, I said it but when it's written down, it looks kind of bad, innit?"

He's incredibly naïve. I could imagine that he hears someone say something and then takes that opinion as his own, without really thinking about it.

that's absolutely brilliant that is Ian. like everyone else, when you do a paraphrase of what Khan says, you add 'innit' at the end. awesome stuff. does full justice to your journalistic training and integrity, that :TU:

when the supposedly more sensible and eloquent posters on here come out with that kind of s-h-i-t it's hardly surprising khan thinks people hate on him. seeing as hardly anyone is able to quote him without falling into their hilarious 'how to parody a young lad's colloquial speech lesson 1: add the word innit to the end of every sentence'

Thats a bit strong (innit?)

I think Khans view of people hating him would be more linked to people booing him, or cheering the roof off when he got knocked out. I cant see it being because someone light heartedly paraphrased him in a forum that he probably won't read...

He is absolutley bloody spot on!

If this kid was called Dave Smith from Hartlepool and had a Hattonesque persona then he would be lauded as the greatest thing
since the meat and potato pie.

What more does he need to do? Get a British bulldog tattooed on his chest?

He has every right to ask that question - he has more patriotism than me - I would have been out of there
two years ago at least! :TU:

Any joy anyone has at Khan's demise against Prescott or any underlying mistrust of him has NOTHING to do with his colour and everything to do with who he signed for when turning PRO.

Warren is, or was, viewed as THE establishment, and we all, as human beings, love to see the establishment get egg on their face.

Thats my perspective.

And the journo's who walked Khan into the race trap need to take a look at themselves too. He wears Unior Jack shorts, calls himself British, was born here and fought for the country in the Olympics - he does a lot to promote better disciplines from young people too - the tabloids and broadsheet dicks should have a little more care.

I bet he didn't even say the line, it was taken from one of these tabloids who always go on about kiddie fiddlers on the loose, immigrants stealing jobs, people getting stabbed as soon as they open the front door and all the rest of that "Oh it's all so bad and we're going to have to commit suicide" waffle.

i should add. i really thought Ian was above the normal forum run of things. i recall when khan got knocked out, on certain sites you could barely avoid little photoshopped pictures of khan, 99% of which had him saying 'i got knocked out, innit'. like the 'innit' was essential fare for the full 'comic' effect. brilliant.

i thought Ian was more along the lines of journalistic objectivity and integrity, not puerile throwaway comments. then again judging by his hissyfit at lee noble for having the barefaced cheek to take more money and face an olypian on a televised warren show, than face someone ian described as a 'lovely lad' for about 4 times less.

eff it i probably come off like a pmpous pudendum here but i don't care, that is how i view it.

I'd think he's got some right to take the opinion as his own when he hears someone say "paki" and other slurs againts his race. I dont imagine your in the position to judge him incredibly naive really.

That's absolute nonsense mate.

You only have to watch one of his fights in a pub and listen to the racist anti "paki" brigade (and I'm from Bolton!!), or read a few comments on you tube to see that his colour and association with Pakistan has a very negative impact on certain sections of the public's views on him. And that was never more apparant than when Prescott KO'd him.

On these boards, I'd agree with you. But in general it's more a racist thing.

Fair enough. Perhaps I spend too much time in here, I forget its not a snapshot of society sometimes and I dont' live in one of the hotbeds like Burnley, Oldham etc....

I can believe that real boxing fans have a dislike for Khan which doesn't stem from nationality, but 90% of casual boxing fans i've encountered are quite the opposite.

The 'innit' wasn't essential. It was utterly gratuitous. I've never heard Khan say 'innit'. I was taking the p*ss. So does that make me a racist now? What a load of sh1te.

If I called your pal Lee Noble a pudding eating Dingle, would that draw the same criticism? And don't give me the old sh1te that 'innit' is solely a 'British Asian' thing inextricably connected with race or whatever the f*ck the correct political term is this week.

Lee Noble, apparently, didn't pull out of the Wilson fight because of money but because his mrs had a kid and he missed training.

You're almost certainly wrong, banjo. This is a common misconception about journos - well, the non-showbiz, muck-raking ones. Look at Michael Vaughan when he was absolutely adamant that he hadn't said the 'Fredalo' comments and basically called the journalist in question a c*nt. Said journo then produces a tape with the EXACT words on. Did Vaughan apologise for raking the journo's credibility through the mud? No, of course not.

Like David said, most boxing fans who disliked Khan: a) don't dislike him quite as much anymore and b) didn't like him because of having to put up with hype, hype, hype on terrestrial telly which did a disservice to the sport generally.

Ian i didn't call you a racist. i called you puerile and i stand by it.

check out a khan-hating post on the average forum and just see how many times the 'I' word comes up (see what i have done there? haha)

to me that means you've put yourself in the same category as the puerile hordes doing photoshop-Khans.

now, where would you draw the conclusion that lee noble was my pal? try and find a single positive thing i have ever said about him.

the post above simply indicates that i thought you also lowered yourself with your little 'lovely fella jez wilson vs 'bucketmouthed tosser Noble' dichotomy.

mind, you just managed to refer to Noble without any kind of unnecessary epithets at all. there's progress at least, init.
