Oleg Maskaev vs Nagy Aguilera HL

Post by Old bones Ian »

Looks like the end of the road for Maskaev, but could be the start of something for Aguilera.
He's only 23 and definatly crack with either hand, hope he gets brought along correctly.
could be a player if his chin holds up.

great finish from Aguilera, no messing about. Maskaev had his day in the sun and should pack it in and enjoy Californian life.

Thanks for posting Ian :TU:

Nice finish and gotten to early but defence has never been Maskaev's strong point imo. We have seen it before and it's time for him to call it a day. I'll always remember the Rahman fights though. :TU:

Kudos to Aguilera for pulling back before the ref stopped it. Class act.

I always thought the promoters of our Brit heavies were missing a trick. I reckon Martin Rogan could have followed his wins over Audley and Skelton with a fight with Maskaev and won easily and set himself up for a World title fight.

In recent years all you really need to do against Maskaev is survive the first 3 rounds after which he is breathing out his backside. Before this weekend Id have picked Sexton, Rogan, Harrison, Williams, McDermott, Fury, Skelton and Sprott all to be able to beat Maskaev in some way. His World ranking was right up there too. It's a shame none of our guys got the chance to take advantage of it.

Didn't he win the title by ko'ing Rahman in the final round?

Yeah 3 years ago, in his fight with Sam Peter he was spent really soon and as well in his fight with Rob Hawkins which I somehow managed to see on youtube again he was breathing real heavy before the mid stage. That 15month spell off really affected his fitness.

Fair play I didn't see the fights you mentioned - only highlights of the Peter fight I think.
