Eric has my schoolboy national final win in 1997.... I know this because you can hear his distinctive cockney voice saying "Cor blimey, this kid is taking more shots than a heroin addict"

That was about my opponent by the way

does anyone remember the 2002 Commonwealth Games final, Light middleweight...

The guy Smith faced went on to World title honours, I think, although I can't for the life of me remember who he is.

just to clarify to all involved this was by no means a " slagg of paul smith" forum, it was simply a opinions on paul smith, as i would have liked to see weather or not people agreed on my take on his fights so far and how he has done/future prospects ect,it was also no attack on his personality as by judging on previous post he is obviously a quality lad with his head screwed on,alot of my opinion on him not doing as much as he possibly could derived from commentators saying it but the actual fact behind this post was more of a eyebrow raiser as to the commentators and fans supremely overbilling him than paul himself doing anything of the sort, as i would have hoped people who have done would come out and show me fights he may have been in which would prove the general point of this thread wrong. To sum up Appologys if this thread has caused any undue offense

Was unlucky to lose to! Thought he done extremely well through the whole games! Also wasnt that when barker won gold? Also why does everyone question barkers chin? Dont think he ever got hurt as an amateur and got caught with a massive left hook from a big guy in his 5th fight? Spars with froch, who hits hard, and said he takes his shots well. Kessler also stated Barkers a very good pro who'll go far!?

Yeah, I went to that final with a couple of other lads who post on here. Thought Smigga acquitted himself quite well in the final against Pascal and wasn’t too far from taking gold. I think Pascal was a bit more rangy (is that a word?) and got the jab off a bit more, moving in and out, using the ring a bit, which is what the amateurs is all about. It's for this reason I'm convinced Smigga has got a bit more in the bag.

No doubt plenty of big outings in against the likes of Dodson and Quigley in the Echo Arena will do him good.

Interestingly I note that Carl Dilks is fighting for the commonwealth super middleweight title. That would be a good fight to see, two scousers in the Echo fighting for the British & Commonwealth titles.

I've been in a gym with some top people now,I know a good fighter when I see one and Paul is a good fighter!! A very good fighter!! Can do everything!! Box,punch,counter-punch,strong an sound defence wise!!

Tony Quigley is a very good fighter and Paul beat him, When Paul get's matched with someone who he see's as a danger that's when you'll see the best of him!! March 12th is gonna be another fantastic night for Liverpool boxing.I can't wait.

All will probably revealed on Thursday and as the bill get's closer.. Paul is now becoming a huge draw in Liverpool that is for sure, 7 thousend last time and I think it'll be more this time as the build up will be longer and probably better, Come the 12th March Liverpool will come to a standstill!! :TU:

Brook Vs Jennings not on the bill

Once Stephen Smith hits title level it's over for a lot of Featherweights in Britain..

Cheers,

The night before the Pascal fight I fractured my scaphoid(Thumb) when beating Craig McEwan in the semi-final.
The bump on my thumb was the size of a golf ball but I really wanted the gold, and boxing Pascal who was the favourite to win gold at any weight, was all I wanted to do.

I didn't get going in the first, that's what lost me the bout. I was 0-6 down at rd 1. then 5-6 at rd 2. then 9-9 at 3 and I lost 18-16 :KO:

He was a very good kid tho'.... Could whack! :oo

Again not making excuses like I lost fair and square, but I was also the only kid in the games that fought 5 times. :TU:

PS. I wish I had the balls to be like Bomber Bellew haha. The lad just cracks me up      :TU:

A year or so I'd hope to be European title....
One fight at a time tho'

It's far too early to judge the latest batch, Jeffries, Degale, Groves & co. They've only just started and haven't been tested.

Good luck to them all

Got dropped twice against Conroy Mcintosh and was also down against Samuels so while he's a classy fighter it's perfectly legitimate to ask questions about his chin.
