Darchinyan vs. Rojas: 1 belt or 2 belts?

Post by claudevsq »

This is from the WBA page:

WBC/WBA super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (33-2-1, 26 KOs) scored a spectacular second round KO over WBC interim super flyweight champion Tomas Rojas (32-11-1, 22 KOs). A good action fight ended when Darchinyan connected with a straight left that put Rojas down for the count at the 2:54 mark.

I don't know if Darchinyan vs. Rojas last Saturday was only for the WBC belt, as you have it, or if it was for both of Vic's belts, but Fightnews also reported that it has been for both the WBA Super and WBC belts. If this is the case, you should add the title to both fighters' record. But if it was only for the WBC belt, then, no change is necessary.

And no voluntary defense of the WBA super championship? Has The WBA confirmed that?

Take my word for it.
WBA wasn't going to allow its super world champ defend against WBC interim champ = Politics

Darchinyan's record is now showing a version of the WBA title as being at stake in his fight with Tomas Rojas.

Has it been found out whether Darchinyan's WBA title was at stake in his fight with Rojas?

Not at stake was the interim champion's title in his fight with Manuel Vargas on February 13, 2010 according to the ring announcer, who mentioned, "title not on the line tonight". This Fightnews article likewise called the fight a "non-title bout."

That's correct, I was just going to mention it in a separate thread. From Fightnews:

WBA interim super flyweight interim champion Nonito Donaire (23-1, 15 KOs) scored a third round KO over late sub Manuel ‘Chango’ Vargas (26-5-1, 11 KOs) in a non-title bout on Saturday night at the famous Las Vegas Hilton Hotel/Casino. Donaire was in command all the way before laying out Vargas for the count with a left uppercut at 1:33. After original challenger Gerson Guerrero failed his physical, Vargas, who was preparing for the WBC title at 108 lbs moved up two divisions on three days notice.

By the way, I see you came to reason (or someone else), you have Darchinyan now defending his "WBA Super World" and WBC titles on March 6... :TU:
