OT: Any one able to help with a sky+ prob before i call sky?

Post by damianhucker1 »

i know some of you might be more adept than me at using sky + through use when recording fights etc so thought id try here first.

i have always just had a standard set up but asked sky to upgrade me as everyone else seems to be getting all this new stuff free yet id been with them years and got nothing , basically they said that if i took up multi room at an extra £9 per month i could have a free sky plus box but that theres a shortage due to a recent promotion and ill get an email when one becomes available , in the meantime a freind has moved house and upgraded to sky+ hd so given me his old sky + box , i have found i can only record the channell im watching as i only have a single feed from my dish , sky was going to charge me £30 to install anyway so whats the chance theyll just install a double feed to ensure the sky + box fully and will they give me another sky + for upstairs or just use my original box , also is this something i could just do myself and not bother paying them to install it and if so what do i need to do it . any help would be great as ill get to watch more boxing and the mrs wont have to miss her crap like hlby city or whatever rubbish shes watching at the time .

Ring them up. Ask to be put through to the cancellation department. Tell them you've been with them for years and would like to be able to record programmes, but you can't because you only have one feed and no Sky+ Box.

They will ask why you want to cancel. Tell them you've spoken to Virgin and they've offered you a free box and free installation if you switch over to them. So it will be cheaper if you switch over.

They will ask you what they can do to keep you as a customer. Tell them if they put in the second feed for free and a free Sky + Box. You'll stick with Sky. They'll give you a free Sky+ box and installation for free.

You’ll have a Sky engineer out on Friday!

(I did this just 2 months ago when my box went faulty. Had no insurance. Was quoted £150 to fix it. £100 for the Sky+ box and £50 installation. They replaced the Sky+ box for free and installed it for free too.)

Let me know how you got on!

Sky are strange operators. I had Sky World multiroom [2 rooms] and was paying nearly €85 a month for it which I couldn't really afford when my gf was let go from work. I was tipped off by a mate to cancel my subscripton and sign back up again a few days later because it works out cheaper and you get special deals for being a new subscriber. I'm now paying €70 a month [dropped two of the useless packs] but I got a months free Sky and a free Sky + box which would have cost me €150 as an existing Sky Customer which is a bit strange. I'm like a kid at Xmas with my Sky +.

With the Eurovox,Starview Box's losing all the sky sports channels over here in Ireland,i had to order sky,I got the same deal Deno,Free sky world for the month and free Sky+Hd box,But i did have to pay 40 euros for installation. The sky+ hd box cost 14 euros extra per month but i cancel the HD option inside 28 days and now i don't have to pay the 14 euros and still have my HD Channels.Happy Days :TU:I'm going to downgrade from Sky World as we don't watch the movies.

Just be careful doing this, i rang them said i want to cancel etc, and the nice lady on the phone said "when would you like to cancel from, do you want me to process it now" i said i would think about it and ring back later!

I really wanted to cancel the movies option too MPG because it works out so much cheaper without it but my gf kicked up a fuss about not being able to see the Xmas movies which are always on other channels anyway and I just know after Xmas she will find another excuse to keep them even though she never watches them  If I had of known that about the HD I would have done that. As a matter of interest does the HD make much of a difference in viewing certain things? I've heard conflicting reviews about it.

as far as the hd difference , i was one of those that said it made no real difference , but when watching liverpool vs arsenal at his house i could see a definate difference , looking at it you wouldnt notice but if you flick from sky sports to sky sports hd you can see a far clearer picture on hd , i hadnt noticed anything wrong with the normal picture quality and can manage without the hd for now , but yes you can see its better
